TEAM BATH RULE THE COURT

SLICK: Team Bath's Tamsin Greenway

Tuesday November 25,2008

A SLICK Team Bath performed like a well-oiled machine last night, to beat Team Northumbria 29-63 and gain their fifth win out of five matches.

Bath took the first quarter 5-18, establishing a credible 13 goal lead early in the game with shooters Pamela Cookey and Tamsin Greenway combining as well as their full-court defence.

During the first break Team Northumbria's coach, Denise Egan, re-shuffled her attacking end.

But a slightly improved home side could not keep up with Team Bath's precision. By half-time the guests had added 13 more goals to the board, bringing the score to 12-31.

In the third-quarter Team Northumbria's grimly determined defence created turnover but failed to capitalise on the opportunities, enabling Bath to pick up another 19 goals and making the score 25-50 with just 15 minutes left to play.

The fourth and final quarter completed an impressive performance by Team Bath with the score at the end of play 29-63.

Team Bath coach Jess Garland said: "Our first quarter was our best this season, it’s the best start we’ve had so far.

"I was really pleased with our full-court defence, it was a big improvement. Both our defence and attacking players made lots of turnovers."

Shooter Pamela Cookey was awarded player of the match, after clocking up a 95 per cent shooting accuracy.

She said: "It was an awesome game by the whole squad, the combination finally clicked and I was really pleased with the whole team defence."

Denise Egan was satisfied with being able to play her entire squad. She added: "Bath came out very strong from the outset. They showed speed through the court that some of our players found difficult.

"We played well in terms of circle defence. We got lots of turnover as a defensive unit, but didn’t manage to convert against Bath.

"We wanted to take the opportunity to play our entire squad to see how they performed under pressure in preparation for our next week’s game against Brunel Hurricanes - a game we really need to win.’

Tonight’s clash between Team Northumbria and Team Bath can be seen on Sky Sports on Thursday night.
