HAS DARLING'S RESCUE PACKAGE BROUGHT HOPE TO BRITAIN?
GAMBLE: Darling unveiled the rescue package yesterday
BRITAIN can today dare hope that brighter times lie ahead – as long as the biggest economic gamble in our history pays off.
After months of gloom, the Bank of England slashed interest rates by
0.5 per cent yesterday, with expectations of big cuts to come.
And a £500billion rescue package to save the banking system was
unveiled by the Treasury.
The double lifeline to revive the economy and beat the credit crunch at
last gave hard-pressed householders reason to cheer.
It was also welcomed in the City and across the political divide. But
families and businesses alike must pray that the unprecedented rescue
package works – because there appears to be no alternative.
Stephen Gifford, chief economist at City accountants Grant Thornton,
said: “In many ways we are in the last-chance saloon.
“The same-day response to the financial crisis from the Bank of England
and Treasury is certainly unprecedented, and let’s hope this has the
desired impact. It must work as there is not much left in their armoury.
“The key now is for the markets to respond to this intervention with
reason and a measure of realistic optimism. We must now begin to help
talk ourselves out of a recession as we certainly have helped talk
ourselves into one.”
* Has Darling's £500 billion rescue package brought HOPE to Britain?
* Did yesterday's DOUBLE LIFELINE to revive the economy give hard-pressed householders a reason to cheer?

Before Gordon's policies make him No 1 hero in this dreadful crisis,( appreciating that it is not all his fault,) using the old saying " that one swallow does not make a summer" remember that this is the party that has brought our once proud country almost to it's knees robbing us of so much of our way of life and depriving us of many services for which we have paid dear because their policies have made this country responsible for the welfare of the world and his wife, at the same time not forgetting going into a conflict based of lies resulting in the loss of lives of our young men and women. There is much more we 'hoped' for
but it's not forthcoming because of broken promises,ie the promised referendum for one

NO NOT TO THOSE LOSING THEIR JOBS AND HOUSES.

No, but its brought hope to GB & AD and the NuLabour crew. Well temporary hope at least. Gordon will bask in the current limelight, then when it fades he will be looking around for someone new
to blame.
It has brought a few hopes to some top bankers, but NO, No, not to those losing their jobs and houses.

WINTER FUEL ROBBERY
17.10.08, 10:44am
The news from my parents in Oz yesterday that they are to receive a Chrsitmas Bonus of 1000 dollars each from the government casued me to reflect on the contrasting plight of pensioners and others in this country suffering under the current economic climate. Yesterday's attempted 'grilling'on TV of the representative of the various energy providers stunned me.He tried to justify the fact that heating billls won't come down with the price of oil, claiming that our winter supplies have already been purchased. I hope the Express will take this daylight robbery to task and adopt it as a campaign.Energy companies are now laughing all the way to the bank, at our expense.

The rises and falls of the stock exchange is immaterial at this stage. I went through the terrible times of the 1990s and I tell you it was horrible - nobody cared. You must prepare yourselves for some difficult times. 1 voice on its own does no good --many voices together can do some good. Banks have been bailed out with our money - see if the same is done for ordinary people - you wont assurance that you will not loose your home - your car, your salaries will be paid if you are out of work. the national avarage £26000.00. Sound silly doesn;t it, but thats what has happened to the banks --- it your money

SANDIE I AGREE WITH YOUR LAST POST ABSOLUTELY

You speak so much sense
This govt has always been about spin......
another word for lies.
Yes Thatcher was upfront...rightly or wrongly
But this govt has practised the art of deception
and have tangled themselves a right old web.
All we really want is a govt that will tell us how it is. We are willing to make sacrifices, as our parents and grandparents did, if it is for the good of our children and grandchildren.
But we need to know the score and we need to know that the MPs themselves are not constantly pigging at the trough !
Wastage needs to be identified within govt depts and cut to manageable levels.
Benefits should be paid to the needy and not the lazy.
Immigration should be limited and any immigrant commiting crimes in the UK should be sent back to their country of origin and not provided for by the taxpayer.

As I said in my posts on other threads, I call a spade a spade.
If I believe (along with millions of others) that people are flocking to this country to scrounge from the benefits system - I say so.
If I think teenagers behaviour is way out of hand - which most others agree with - given the knife culture, the binge drinking and drugs awash in the country - I say so.
If the Government are wallies who regularly have their fingers in the till - I say so.
If you have a problem with my comments, well that is just tough for you isn't it??
I was a socialist, and in 1997, I voted for the Labour party.
Well didn't that just bite me on the backside. The Labour party is more conservative than the Conservative party. Tony BLiar and Gordon Brown are as ruthless as Margaret Thatcher, only difference is, she has more b*alls them them, bigger ones as well.....
They can only try to emanate her behaviour. She was FOR this country. BLiar and McBroon are against it. They support every other country on the planet before their own.
The people of this country are like 2nd class citizens, always at the back of the queue.
They you go, LFDM, I found something else for you to moan about.
At least Thatcher was upfront, BLiar and Brown try to put on a caring front. They are far more nasty than Thatcher and all of her cabinet put together.
Now that is really saying something.... they were also a bunch of horrors. I haven't forgot that.... but even they are smallfry against the disgusting behaviour of this current Government.
And you support them..... Shame on you!!
