Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa

Thursday September 18,2008

HANGING Leonardo da Vinci prints in hospitals would help patients cope with pain, according to new research.

A team from Bari University, in Italy, asked 12 men and women to pick out 20 paintings they considered to be ugly and beautiful from works by artists such as da Vinci and Botticelli.

As the subjects viewed the paintings, their hands were zapped with a laser pulse. They rated the pain a third less intense when admiring the beautiful works.

The research is published in New Scientist magazine.

I detect a delightful cynicism in your comment juan01. Detect? But I will only hold my breath fot five seconds.
