HUGHES KEEN ON WRIGHT-PHILLIPS

Mark Hughes has confirmed he wants Shaun Wright-Phillips to return to Manchester City and is "very hopeful" of landing the Chelsea winger.

However Hughes may be thwarted in attempts to sign the England international, whose agent claims his client wants to stay with Chelsea.

"I haven't had the opportunity to take any calls since we landed (in Denmark) so I'm sure there will be an update waiting for me," said Hughes ahead of Thursday's UEFA Cup second qualifying round second leg against FC Midtjylland. "But until I get that I can't give any more news."

He added: "We're obviously keen to bring him to the club if we can. If the opportunity presents itself we'll try to pursue it but we're not further down the road as yet.

"The situation before we flew was the same. It may have moved forward or it may have gone backwards but until I put the call in, I won't know.

"But it's a possibility. We're very hopeful."

Agent Wayne Lindsay claims Wright-Phillips, 26, will do all he can to secure himself a future at Chelsea.

Everton are also thought to be keen on Wright-Phillips but, as in the case of City, the player himself is said to be not interested.

Lindsay told skysports.com: "He (Wright-Phillips) doesn't want to join either of them and we are now discussing the next move to see what we do.

"Because of all the problems there (City) and the uncertainty surrounding the place he is unsure. He is speaking with the manager (Luiz Felipe Scolari) at the moment but he is settled in London. He would like to stay and that's the bottom line but it is up to the manager."
