NICKY Henderson spoke today of the new arrangement for stable jockey at Seven Barrows this season which will see Barry Geraghty take the bulk of the plum rides now Mick FitzGerald has retired.

"It's a big hole to fill," said Henderson. The 16-year partnership ended when Fitzgerald announced his retirement through injury..

"Barry will come over from Ireland on a regular basis. Their principal day is Sunday which isn't my favourite racing day anyway.

"He's ridden a lot for me, Punjabi in the Champion Hurdle at Punchestown last April just one of them. Barry is a big race jockey. He's keen and I'm hopeful.

"AP (McCoy) is going to be involved regularly as well."

Binocular was last year's leading novice and is McCoy's mount for his boss JP McManus.

"Binocular arrived back yesterday from JP's Martinstown Stud and looks magnificent. Behind that principal retainer AP will have a big part to play here as will Marcus Foley, Andrew Tinkler and Felix de Giles. They are part and parcel of the back-up and neither Barry nor AP are the lightest of boys."

Henderson stressed that Fitzgerald remains an integral part of his team.

"Mick had this unique ability to to work a race out, to take it apart and explain how it would be run and the way we should play it.

"First thing we have to do with Mick  though is get him married today."

Geraghty will be  a regular on the same plane as countryman Ruby Walsh on his way to Paul Nicholls in Somerset.

Henderson's new man said: "I'm only 25 minutes from Dublin Airport. I wouldn't see any negatives to the new arrangement at all. We'll cross bridges as they come along. I know my way round most British tracks.

"I've ridden plenty of winners for Nicky, Jonjo and Paul Nicholls besides the Irish horses. Nicky's horses will be the priority.

Geraghty, National winner on Monty's Pass, Gold Cup winning partner of Kicking King continued: "Punjabi will be a Champion Hurdle contender. Jack the Giant looks a serious horse and Barbers Shop and plenty more."

Of his illustrious predecessor Geraghty said: "Mick was brilliant, committed, good fun in the weighing room and someone you could talk to if you had anything on your mind."
