IT GETS EVEN WORSE...NOW LABOUR FACE A BY-ELECTION IN GLASGOW EAST
Gordon Brown could lose the previously safe Glasgow East seat
By Geoff Marsh for scottishdailyexpress.co.uk
THE Labour Party is facing another crisis in Scotland today with the shock news they face a by-election in Glasgow East.
With the party reeling from Wendy Alexander's resignation, David Marshall told local activists he was stepping down because of ill health - setting up a showdown with the SNP in a constituency where Labour has a large - but beatable - 13,507 majority.
Labour is still reeling from this week’s humiliating mauling in Henley,Oxfordshire, where it came fifth behind the Green Party and the BNP and lost its deposit as the Tories won easily.
A spokesman for the Scottish Labour Party said: “David Marshall has indicated to local members in Glasgow that he will step down as a Member of Parliament.
“We understand that he has written to party members to say that his health has deteriorated and so our thoughts and prayers are with him at this time and we wish him a speedy recovery.

David Marshall MP is stepping down

“David Marshall has been an outstanding champion for the people of Glasgow all his life. He has always fought against poverty and spoken up for the people of the East End.
“This is a really difficult time for him, and hundreds of constituents will want to send him their best wishes.”
The fresh concerns came as Mr Brown started his second year as Prime Minister 21 points behind in the polls and facing a call for him to quit.

Harriet Harman on David Marshall

Former chief fundraiser Lord Levy told the BBC the PM’s future should be “seriously considered” in the wake of the Henley debacle.
His verdict was followed by a ComRes poll for the Independent which put the Conservatives on 46% - enough for a 212-seat Commons majority.
David Cameron’s Opposition rose two points while Labour slumped five to 25% and Mr Cameron said the emphatic win in Henley showed his party was a credible alternative government.
In the Crewe and Nantwich by-election forced by the death of veteran MP Gwyneth Dunwoody, her 7,000 majority was transformed to an even bigger Conservative advantage at the height of the row over the scrapping of the 10p tax rate.
Mr Brown will also have bad memories of the 2006 by-election on his own doorstep in 2006 when the Liberal Democrats overturned an 11,000-plus Labour majority in Dunfermline and West Fife.
Meanwhile Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman today praised Mr Marshall. She said: "He is a strong and committed supporter of the trade union movement in Scotland.
“A proud son of Scotland, he has fought at Westminster to improve the lives of the people in Glasgow East, the constituency that he has loved and served.”

So what Harriet? That's just your usual disingenouous b*llocks. The truth is he is yet another corrupt Labour MP.
Come on Scotland, do us all proud. Tell us what you think of Gormless Brown, tell us what you think of Hariet Har-woman, tell us what you think of all these corrupt Labour MP's and ministers.
Come on Scotland, consign Labour to the dustbin of history.
