David Davis has resigned as an MP

Thursday June 12,2008

By Julia White for express.co.uk

SHADOW home secretary David Davis has today resigned as an MP to take a stand against the relentless erosion of British freedom by the Government.

Mr Davis said he was forcing a by-election in Howden and Haltemprice to protest against the “insidious” erosion of civil liberties in Britain.

The move comes in the wake of yesterday's victory for the Government over the 42-day terror detention plan.

The Tory frontbencher spearheaded the Conservatives’ failed bid to defeat the Government over extending detention without charge, which caused disquiet among some Tory MPs.

Speaking this lunchtime Mr Davis said he acting against "the slow strangulation of fundamental British freedoms by this Government".

As the resignation drama unfolded in Westminster, Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg confirmed his party would not be fielding a candidate in the by-election - giving Mr Davis a clear run against a Labour candidate.

Tory leader David Cameron described Mr Davis’s action as a “courageous” personal decision and announced that Dominic Grieve would be replacing him as shadow home secretary.

Mr Davis said the undermining of civil liberties through moves such as 42 days and the introduction of ID cards “cannot go on”.

He said: “It must be stopped and for that reason today I feel it is incumbent on me to take a stand."

Aides to Mr Davis had indicated that last night’s vote was “do or die”, and he had staked a great deal of his credibility on the outcome.

Privately Mr Davis has accepted that many on the Tory benches were uncomfortable about opposing tough law and order measures.

However, he is seen as one of the Shadow Cabinet’s best operators, and has claimed the scalps of a succession of Home Secretaries.

LIB/LAB/CON ARE ONE PARTY.

The Marxist dream of a one world dictatorship is now closer than ever to achieving it’s goal. They’ve been working to achieve their goal for a long, long time - the following time line will give you an idea of how long, as well as showing just how deeply entrenched within the political establishment the Marxist cancer really is!

THREE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A MARXIST
Marx wrote three requirements for those who wished to join the fight for World Government.

1 To read the Communist and Revolutionary teachings of Marx and associates and work accordingly.
2 To work to destabilise nations both morally and financially.
3 To work to gain political control of the MONEY supply and the ASSETS of each Nation and put them BEYOND the REACH and CONTROL of each Government by ensuring that nations become INTER-DEPENDANT on each other for FOOD, MACHINERY and through LOANS

DAVID DAVIS QUITS IN STAND AGAINST EROSION OF BRITISH FREEDOM

13.06.08, 8:44am

Methinks that these days there are only a very few "Men of Principle" left in Westminster.

David Davis clearly is one of these men and God only knows that this Country IS NOW CRYING OUT FOR SUCH MEN IN ORDER TO REDEEM THAT WHICH LABOUR HAS SQUANDERED.

POLITICS AND PRINCIPLE

13.06.08, 8:27am

Of course the decision of David Davis to stand down from parliament has caused consternation. Politics and principle have become rare bedfellows in recent years. To the political media such lack of pragmatism is inconceivable. While to career MPs relaxed in the protective Commons environment of privilege and expenses such action is akin to madness, and Mr Brown will be gleeful that public attention has miraculously been turned from his doubtful dealings in the vote for 43 day detention. But to many of us a breath of fresh air has been introduced into public life, a politician who is prepared to sacrifice his career on the principle of freedom. We all owe David Davis a debt of gratitude and in the coming days more and more people will realize that.

BUT WHY?

13.06.08, 8:24am

Why would David Davis chance losing his career for a stunt?
I admire him for taking a stand to question what is happening to our country,a country in which we are not allowed to voice an opinion for fear os 'offending or outraging' someone somewhere.
The government ministers would of course call it a stunt which only goes to show the 'stunt' has them well and truly rattled that the people will at last have someone who is speaking their language about the distruction of our freedoms for which many gave their lives to defend, the 42 day arguement is a fraction of what is really happening here and the sooner we join him and
put up a fight for those freedoms the better

DOES ANYONE..?

13.06.08, 6:31am

Does anyone honestly believe if and when Godron (Mugabe) Broone and the modern day Third Reich (also known as NuLabour) is ousted there will be any revoking of these laws which deny basic human rights?
The answer is a big No. Once on the Statue Books always on the Statue Books.
We are on the road to Hell
The incoming incumbents will be eternally grateful Broone did the dirty work for them.

ITS ALL GONNA END IN TEARS .........

12.06.08, 11:07pm

I spend a lot of time in Eastern Europe, mainly because i now live there , at weekends the main topic of conversation is the UK and its Magnificent history, but....... and theres always a but.. as far as i can make out the older and dare i say wiser generation realize that we are or in the advanced stages of sleep walking into a state of oppression, and as they remind me often enough, they should know they have been there and worn the t shirt, they know the danger signs, and inform me that it could not or will not happen to them again.. fair comment .......

Untill, i point out that they are now under the same control under the European Union ..

End of Discussion ...
