Neil Lennon: Fears

Saturday June 7,2008

By Jim Mclean

CELTIC coach Neil Lennon fears Georgios Samaras and Artur Boruc could seal Parkhead exits with a good showing at Euro 2008.

Lennon hopes Celtic can strike a £3 million deal for Samaras following the Greek striker's showing during a six month loan spell from Manchester City.

Gordon Strachan's first team coach also wants £10 million-rated keeper Artur Boruc to help Celtic go for four in a row next season.

But Lennon is smart enough to realise thatthese plans could be wrecked if both men shine at Euro 2008 which kicks off today in Austria and Switzerland.

Samaras is waiting until after the Euros before signing for anyone and the arrival of Mark Hughes at Eastlands could complicate matters further.

Lennon said: "You can see if from Sammy's point of view.

"If he does well then his valuation might rise and the new boss at City might ask him to stay."

On Boruc becoming a top target for clubs in Italy and England, Lennon added: "It's good for the player and good for the club if Boruc does well.

"If there are takers out there then his price tag goes up. Every other club does it so we might as well do it.

"We don't want him to go, you'd have to ask the chief executive or the money people how much he's worth.

"But I'm sure there will be plenty of takers out there no matter the pricetag as his contribution to the club has been immeasurable."

Boruc is in action tomorrow night when Poland play Germany in Klagenfurt while Samaras and Greece begin the defence of their title On Tuesday in Salzburg against Henrik Larsson's Sweden.
