PATIENTS may be forced to travel miles further to see their GP under plans for new “super-surgeries,” which could be run by foreign firms.

A new report suggests the polyclinics, planned for every region, will trigger the end of local GPs.

Worst of all, many could end up being run by foreign firms answerable to overseas shareholders rather than their patients.

Last night critics accused Labour of orchestrating the end to a nationally-owned NHS after ministers said they also want private firms to take over failing hospitals.

Just as an add-on to my previous post.
My treatment at Musgrove Park Hospital,Taunton was the best!
The stroke unit consultant was Iranian,
the surgeon was from Northern Ireland and the nursing staff were from all-over so it's all down to attitude not nationality.

We have had an 'NHS award winning' triage system at our surgery for some time now. The odds of getting an appointment with one's own doctor is 50:1 against . On two occasions last year I rang NHS direct out of hours regarding a suspected TIA only to be told it was a migraine. After the weekend I rang my own GP only to be told the same thing .Later in the day I collapsed and my wife called an ambulance. I spent the next 8 days in the local stroke unit and one week later had an operation on an artery in my neck. I regained the use of my limbs but am left almost blind in one eye. The personnel touch went out of the NHS in this part of Somerset a long time ago and I no longer care who sees me as long as they know what they are doing.
