By Gary Keown

DUTCH side Feyenoord are the latest club to try to lure Georgios Samaras from the clutches of Celtic.

The Hoops want to take up the option of keeping the Greek striker, who spent the second half of the season on loan, and have started talks with Manchester City on completing a permanent transfer.

Samaras is also keen to stay in Glasgow after helping clinch the SPL title.

However, he has vowed not to sign a contract until after Euro 2008 and that has led to a handful of continental sides throwing their hat into the ring in the hope they can convince him to look elsewhere.

Germans Werder Bremen are interested and new Feyenoord coach Gert Jan Verbeek, who will take over the Rotterdam club for next term, is keen to find out the exact extent of the 23-year-old's wage demands.

Verbeek managed Samaras at Dutch club Heerenveen and saw the towering hit-man bag the goals that earned him a £6million move to Manchester in 2006.

Verbeek is desperate to land a target man for next term and has already had initial approaches to Samaras' Parkhead team-mate Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink turned down.

Feyenoord could find Samaras' wage demands a problem, though, and that's why Celts remain very much in pole position for his signature.
