DAVIS: WE MUST FINISH WITH A FLURRY

PAIN: Steven Davis

Saturday May 17,2008

By GARY KEOWN

STEVEN DAVIS has been through so much with his new mates at Rangers that he can't stand the thought of ending an amazing campaign with only memories of failure and frustration.

The Northern Irish midfielder admits the heartbreak of losing 2-0 to UEFA Cup rivals Zenit St Petersburg has overshadowed the achievement of reaching a European final and knows the pain will be 10 times sharper should the Light Blues now blow the league.

Davis has been involved in great adventures as far afield as Florence and Athens since arriving on loan from Fulham in January and is desperate to help steer the team through a breakneck run of visits to Motherwell, Paisley and Aberdeen in the search for SPL and Scottish Cup silver.

This has been the most incredible campaign in Rangers' recent history and Davis insists the players must make sure they have a handful of medals rather than a head full of misery to remember it by.

He said: “It is definitely important to end this season with a special memory.

“We have done brilliantly to get into this position and still have the chance to win the domestic Treble with a week to go.

“Obviously, we have to see it through and make sure we don't suffer a major disappointment. So much hard work has gone into this and it is important that we do it.

“It has been an unbelievable effort from all the boys with the number of fixtures we've had and we're determined not to let it all fall flat now.”

“It gives us a chance to go out and put on a performance to get our season back on track. Everyone is positive and looking forward to going on to clinch the title.

“We'll need to win each of the remaining three league games to secure it. I just hope I can now go on and finish my season in a good way, too.”
