Alan Titchmarsh says he worked so hard at Chelsea he cried

Friday May 16,2008

By Julia White for express.co.uk

GARDENING legend Alan Titchmarsh is not the kind of man you imagine sobbing into his tissue.

But the strapping horticulturist has revealed that the Chelsea Flower Show made him "weep".

The 59-year-old heartthrob was so stressed when preparing for the prestigious gardening event that he was reduced to tears.

He told the Daily Express Saturday Magazine: "I'd never before wept when I was planting things, as I did doing my Chelsea Garden because I was so tired."

Alan's tears back in 1987 were worth it - he won a Gold Medal for his 'Country Kitchen Garden'. But it was such a punishing experience that he is loath to repeat it.

He added: "I do get the urge to design another one, but only very briefly and it passes when I remember how much work it was."
