KEIRA HAS NO DREAMS OF A SINGING CAREER

Actress Keira Knightley admits she can't sing

Tuesday May 13,2008

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY may be a woman of many talents but the 23-year-old insists that singing is not one of them.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who had to take singing lessons for her role as Vera Phillips, the chanteuse lover of Dylan Thomas in the biopic The Edge Of Love, admits that flexing her vocal chords in front of people was one of the scariest moments of her life.

“I did some lessons with a voice coach because I can’t sing,” she explains. “It was live. There were 100 extras and John [Maybury, the director] was like, ‘Now you’re going to sing…’ I’ve never been so frightened in my entire life.”

Her performance may have given her a new respect for musical stars but she is adamant that, unlike other actors such as Jennifer Lopez, Minnie Driver and Lindsay Lohan, who have combined singing with acting, she could never be lured into the music industry.

She tells Total Film magazine: “I don’t know how singers do it. I never want to have to do it again. I don’t want to be a rock star.”
