IS LABOUR TO BLAME FOR THE GREAT FOOD RIP-OFF?

Story Image

Should we be paying these prices?

Sunday April 27,2008

SUPERMARKET shoppers in Britain are paying half as much again for food than their continental counterparts.

A Sunday Express investigation has found that the cost of the weekly shop is £16 less in France than it is here.

Even in recession-hit America, which like Britain is in the grip of a global food inflation crisis, supermarket prices are still 53 per cent less than here.

The startling findings come after research by the retail website MySupermarket.co.uk this week found that a basket of 24 staple items has gone up by 15 per cent in the last year, costing families an extra £15 a week, or £800 annually.

Last night Tory MP Nigel Evans said: "The phrase rip-off Britain finally rings true. There clearly needs to be a Government inquiry into why supermarkets are not passing on their profits to customers."

* So what do you think about the hike in prices?

* Are you struggling to make ends meet?

* Do you blame the Government for this situation?

COMMIES

05.05.08, 2:11pm

it seems as though all the anti-communists on here are really into the idea of the government providing strict control of food pricing, as opposed to supporting a free market economy.

maybe 'reaperman' is right, and there is a marxist world takepover coming, after all, this forum seems to be riddled with reds who want the goernment to nanny them and tell businesses what to do.

INTERNATIONAL FOOD PRICES

02.05.08, 6:47pm

I agree no national government can control international food prices. But they can check to make sure supermarkets do not play on world prices to up their profits at the expense of the consumer.

And now all the branches of the Tesco have reduced their prices of vegetables and fruits!

What a change of heart when they are caught fooling the public?

The idiots who vote for thse corrupt politicians seem to have short memories and will claim the that Tesco's price reduction is all due to the government pressure!

Rip off Britain!!!

The problem of the labour party is its choices.
They constantly make bad ones.
