NEW MOTORING RULES WILL NOT STOP WORST OFFENDERS

Monday March 31,2008

THE relentless persecution of motorists is one of the principal factors behind a growing realisation among decent people that this Government is not on their side.

Serious offences such as drink-driving or travelling at a dangerous speed in built-up areas deserve to be severely punished.

But fines for minor parking infringements are already grossly disproportionate and will be rendered even more unjustifiable and less understandable by the latest “reforms” being introduced today.

The idea that leaving a car a few minutes too long in a parking bay warrants a fine of £80 or even £120 is quite absurd. Divide these sums by 10 and you would be left with a more reasonable penalty.

If the Government really cared about safety and driving standards, it would go after the owners of the two million uninsured cars on our roads instead of treating the legitimate majority as cash cows.

But the average fine for outlaw drivers who get caught and prosecuted is £169. As well as being the equivalent of just a couple of parking tickets, that is far less than the combined cost of insurance and a tax disc that law-abiding motorists pay every year.

Yet again the story under Labour is of Middle Britain being squeezed while a criminal underclass is treated with kid gloves. Things cannot go on like this.

The above letters are absolutely correct unless you happen to be the son of a policemen. Then. with a funny handshake here and there, you get away with dangerous driving and excessive speed.

GOVERNMENT NOT ON OUR SIDE?

31.03.08, 11:42pm

I hope people are finally realising this. You have got buses that can't go more than 30 miles before people have to get off and get back on again. You've got cameras on the M25 that take a photo of your face to make sure your face does not exceed average 70mph speed. You have council officials with the right to snoop at your personal records. You have private firms becoming traffic wardens (NCP in Brighton). Yes these laws are to target the generally law abiding people who in days gone by would have broken a few little ones and got away with it. People bold enough to change their number plate and disguise their face when driving will get away with it. Whilst the person who's plate they cloned will get the automatic fine. Perfect conditions to call for all vehicles to be fitted with an RFID tag and GPS tracking which will feed into TIA. Obviously this will be hacked just as Chip'n'Pin was hacked but it will work fine on most people, just not the baddies.

We go on and on about how this Government are squeezing tax out of everybody but yet we do nothing about it whilst we talk it does nothing to change the attitude of the Government.
