UK NEWSHOW THIS TINY PONY EARNED HER STRIPES
Shetbra Nikita with proud father Jonny 
Thursday March 27,2008 PROUD father Jonny the zebra nuzzles up to his new daughter Nikita, who is the remarkable result of a bizarre love affair. The tiny foal has stripes like dad but also bears the hallmarks of her mother Linda – a Shetland pony. This makes Nikita a shetbra – one of the world’s most unusual hybrids. Love blossomed for Linda and Jonny when they met on Tom Beckett’s farm in Morgenzon, South Africa. Jonny had been ousted from his herd and took comfort from Linda after learning to jump the fence between their enclosures. Nikita has the height and features of a Shetland pony but there is no mistaking the other half of her parentage with the black and white stripes under her fluffy coat.
Mr Beckett said: “I was rubbing my eyes in disbelief.” Nikita is the latest in a string of strange hybrids. There has been a zorse – born to a zebra and a horse – while a dolphin and a whale made a wolphin.
