ASBO FOR DRINKER WHO RANG 999

Ruth Ryan called ambulances to pick her up from the pub

Wednesday March 26,2008

A WOMAN has been given an Asbo after repeatedly dialling 999 to be driven home from the pub.

Ruth Ryan called police and ambulance crews more than 100 times after becoming too drunk to get a bus or taxi after a night out.

She has now been banned from dialling 999 for any reason other than a genuine emergency.

The Anti-Social Behaviour Order also prevents jobless Ryan, 36, from entering 70 pubs and clubs in and around her home town, Eastbourne in East Sussex.

PC Ginny Jupp, of Sussex Police, said: “When unable to get transport home due to her drunken state, Ryan has called the police or Sussex ambulance service.

“Her persistent abuse of the 999 system will not be tolerated and the stringent conditions placed on her by the courts are an example to others.”

Neil Harris, a barman in one of the town’s pubs, said: “Ruth’s a nightmare – she gets hammered and thinks it’s
hilarious to dial 999 and treat it like a taxi service.

“Maybe this will make her think twice about picking up the phone when she doesn’t fancy walking home.”
