NO POLICE PROBE INTO CONWAY CONDUCT
Disgraced Tory MP Derek Conway will not face a police probe
Scotland Yard condemned the chaotic state of Commons expenses as it ruled out a police probe into disgraced MP Derek Conway.
The Met said prosecutors had advised them that the "lack of systems" in Parliament would "severely undermine the viability of any criminal investigation".
The Old Bexley and Sidcup MP was severely reprimanded by the Commons authorities in January following allegations that he paid two sons tens of thousands of pounds from the public purse despite them having done little apparent work.
Mr Conway has since been stripped of the Tory party Whip, and announced he will be standing down at the next general election - although he will still draw his £60,000 salary until then.
The scandal sparked renewed outrage over the level of public funds available to Parliamentarians in expenses, and the lack of transparency and accountability.
Last month Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair suggested that he backed a police probe into Mr Conway's actions, insisting that police would not "ignore the situation".
However, in a statement the Yard pointed out that Commons sleaze watchdogs had already looked into the situation, and MPs had voted to suspend Mr Conway for 10 days.
"The allegations have already been investigated by the Parliamentary Commissioner and then put before the Parliamentary Committee on Standards and Privileges who recommended sanctions that were imposed by the House," the statement said.
"The CPS advised us that they are of the view that the lack of systems in this case to account for MPs expenses would severely undermine the viability of any criminal investigation leading to a prosecution. In these circumstances we do not believe that it is appropriate for a police investigation to be instigated."
The office of Commons Speaker Michael Martin said they would not be commenting because the case was a police matter, but stressed that an urgent review was under way into the level of MPs' expenses and the systems for scrutinising them.

Boffin 21.3.08 Now come on, this is terrible,so this twister is going to get away with it, I am sitting here thinking, this man is not such a fool after all, Perhaps it would be a good thing for me to contact him and have a chat, and they say that crime dosn't pay, well he may be interested in working for me on a commision basis, I dont need it that bad, but I could help to make a few more charities a lot stronger, I am now wondering just why I have been so straight all my life, it makes you think, I am now going to put the kettle on for a cup of tea, and go into this a little deeper. I have read enough for today.

Ill bet that any enquiry and its subsequent findings are suitably delayed until AFTER the next General Election.
I wouldnt be at all surprised if it emerged that the current administration had many "Snouts in the trough".
Providing that they can keep the current system in "chaos" then any Police enquiry will be suitably hampered.

Does this reflect how much corruption there is amongst those who dwell in the POW? If one of them is investigated the whole bloody shower would need to be investigated
There are those who are above the laws that govern the rest of us and there are 600 plus of them in Parliament!

Living off the taxpayer as they do, just makes them (very rich) benefits claimants.
As such, they should all be questioned 'under caution', for all their expenses, allowances, and other 'perks'.
They also need to be told that, ' the law says' they only need £84.50 a week to live on
Whole bloody lot of them need shooting.
