FILM director Anthony Minghella has died aged 54.

Minghella was best known for directing the Academy Award-winning film The English Patient.

His films The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain were also nominated for an Oscar.

He was recently in Botswana filming an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith’s novel 'The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency'.
