NHS WAITING TIMES RISE UNDER LABOUR
Hospital patients are waiting longer for teatment than in 1997
Hospital patients are waiting - on average - longer for treatment than when Labour came to power, it has emerged.
Average waiting times for inpatients were 41 days in 1997 but by last year reached 49 days, according to NHS figures. Spending has more than doubled to £90 billion in the same time period.
The figures measure the time from date of diagnosis to date of admission.
Opposition politicians said the statistics showed targets were undermining patient care.
Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said: "This shows how the bigger picture gets neglected in order to meet the Government's top-down targets.
"Patients get a worse deal overall. Labour has to accept that their obsession with bureaucracy and running the NHS around a few targets does not have the best outcome for patients. In meeting one target, another patient misses out. It is simply unfair."
Liberal Democrat health spokesman Norman Lamb said: "These figures massively undermine Labour's claims to have made a substantial difference to NHS waiting times.
"There is a danger if you focus solely on the longest waiting times that clinical priorities get distorted."
Since 1997, ministers have focused on eliminating the longest waits. Before then, waits of 18 months were not uncommon, but now no-one waits longer than six months.
Many of the big reductions in treatment time have been for minor operations such as cataracts, while for some cancers average waiting times have increased, the figures show.

HALF THE TIME

If we were not the NHS to the world accepting all the rubbish that come here as health tourists we could cut the times in half.

WAITING ..........

Actually I have to admit that I have found the opposite effect with our local medical services. In fact I would go as far to say they have improved again and again with regard to getting you seen to. The downside of this improved turnover is that we have a brand new hospital with all sorts of bugs and a number of people going in for minor surgery never coming out again. Efficency at its peak at the cost of lives. Either way we don't win. The only real problem I have is getting to see my GP in the first place, as he's never open when I'm home from work.

THIRD WORLD SERVICE
04.03.08, 3:32pm
A third world service for a first world price. Another 'triumph' for Labour. Pathetic. For 'investment' read 'profligate waste'. If this lot ran a whelk stall, whelks would be unavailable most of the time, and when they had them they'd cost £10 each.

LOGICAL CONCLUSION
04.03.08, 11:10am
It is hard to avoid the conclusion that Labour want us to kick them out of office.
I'm sure we'll be happy to oblige.
