ROYAL MINT LAUNCH 22-CARAT GOLD £1 COINS
The commemorative coins were released today
By Nicola McCafferty for express.co.uk
THE Royal Mint launched a commemorative gold coin set today to mark the anniversary of the first £1 coin.
The limited issue gold Proof Sovereign set, which contains 14 £1 coins made out of 22-carat gold, has been designed for the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the £1 coin.
Each coin bears one of the 14 designs that have been issued since the first coin was put into circulation.

The £1 coin initially appeared in 1983 when it was decided that, due to increased prices and the relatively short-life span of £1 notes, it would be more appropriate for the sum to be a coin.

Only 150 sets are being released by the Royal Mint and each costs £4,995.
There are also 3,000 coin sets available in sterling silver selectively plated with 24-carat gold for £395, as well as 12,000 sets that collectors can buy gradually, paying £49.90 for the first two coins, followed by £59.90 for every two additional coins.

ONLY150? NOT ENOUGH!

"Only 150 sets are being released by the Royal Mint and each costs £4,995"
These are not enough because we have 647 MPS sitting n the parliament, drawing allowances, and all of them may decide to buy these. In that case, 150 sets would be sold in no time.
Or has Gordon Bank sold all the gold in Treasury that belonged to this country that there is only gold left to make 150 sets?
