HAS BLAIR HANDLED THE IRANIAN CRISIS BADLY?

Thursday April 5,2007

THEY were paraded one by one, wearing shiny Iranian suits, in front of their beaming captor yesterday – and forced to “thank” him for their freedom.

As the 15 Royal Marines and sailors trooped before the world’s cameras, towering above Iran’s hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, their 13-day ordeal  edged towards a peaceful end.

But Britain’s humiliation was complete. According to the Iranians, Leading Seaman Faye Turney, 26, burst into tears while watching his prolonged speech on TV.

The others cheered when they learned they would be released soon.

Yet last night they were still not free, facing another night in captivity – and hoping that Tehran would honour its promise to hand them over to the British Embassy this morning.

*But what do YOU think?  Has Blair handled the Iranian crisis badly?  Have YOUR say.

SPINELESS

07.04.07, 1:44pm

Hi

TB and gov have acted like a spineless group of lemmings!!

They are deluded and sincerely believe that 'Britannia rules the waves'!!

The facts are totally different, the 15 captured personnel were ill trained/armed and very poorly lead by someone that does not recognise dangers!!!!

Together, the government, the Navy and the Marines have made GB into a laughing stock around the world!!

The Iranians have measured us up as sheep in wolf's clothing and long term, we/uk will pay dearly for this!!!
:(

HAD BLAIR

07.04.07, 1:13am

Agree with Robertz.
In addition, Blair has no actual or moral authority now not after the WMD lies, Abu Grahib, rendition, the depletion of our forcres means he could not act strongly. The Tehran 15 acted as best they could in the circumstances and what were they well;
A government with a liar for a leader, a hoard of imbiceiles called female Labour Ministers especially the Becket woman, an illegal war, a dogs breakfast of an Iraq, soldiers going A.W.O.L. at the rate of 2,500 in 5 yrs., our young people not wanting to join up and those serving disillusioned, our own country going down the toilet, a U.N which did not support us, our E.U colleagues gutless, and political correctness which has infested our armed forces and taken any balls out of them to either fight back or make a run for it, I wonder if the reason they did not do so was because there was a woman on board?? or they had a middle class p.c anxiety attack, The Iranians moved too fast for Bliar or his pack . The only thing I want to know now is where is Bliars odious wife and her cronines to protect the Human Rights of our 15 servicemen, will they be serving a lawsuit on Iran, I doubt it.

BLAIR WHAT CRISIS?

As always Blair's contribution counted for nothing. The saga unfolded without him. The guy is an expensive waste of space.

UK NAVAL 'DETAINEES'

06.04.07, 11:03am

Has Mr Blair handled this crisis badly? Well its easy to be critical at the time, and afterwards. I suppose that Mr Blair, being the PM, had to make some sort of comment. As to the Service Personnel themselves -- Were our Soldiers too cooperative -- well its far too easy to say that from the comfort of an armchair in the UK. Dealing with a Government that is often appears to be 'schizoid' in nature, and the fanatics who care nothing for the lives of foreigners, one can only guess that the best policy of those service personnel was 'sofly, softly'.

Now that they are back, and are being 'debriefed', probably for any intelligence that can be gleaned, particulary the demeanour of the Iranians involved, might give some clue as to how to operate in those disputed waters in future. It also just hoped that the politically motivated 'Jobsworths' within the MoD dont use this as an opportunity to lambast the Armed Services. Our service Personnel are caught between more than just a 'rock' and a 'hard place' in more than one way. Between the terrorists they are fighting in the Gulf, and politically motivated mischeif makers in the NU Labour Government or the Parliamenty Labour Party.

IRANIAN CRISIS

05.04.07, 10:03pm

Typical Blair ! He attempts to sell the outcome of a totally embarrassing drama for the British people into some sort of success story.
Another black mark towards his legacy !
But hopefully history will write the truth and not have New Labour spin on it !
