Kate Knight has been sentenced to 30 years in jail

A HOUSEWIFE who poisoned her husband with anti-freeze has been sentenced to 30 years in jail today.

Kate Knight was found guilty of attempting to murder husband Lee at their home in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire in April 2005.

The 28-year-old spiked her husband’s curry with ethylene glycol on their seventh wedding anniversary in hopes she could cash in on his £130,000 life insurance policy to clear the huge debts she had run up.

The ordeal left Lee Knight, 27, blind, deaf and brain-damaged. He also suffered kidney failure.

Since last month's verdict, Mrs Knight has been remanded in custody.

When she was arrested in May 2005, police searched the couple's home in Stoke-on-Trent and discovered one bottle of Tesco anti-freeze, containing 840 ml of the liquid.

Her husband told the court he would never buy anti-freeze from Tesco as he could get discounts from two local motor accessory firms.

When giving evidence during the trial, Mr Knight said he never suspected his wife of a murder plot until he came out of a 16-week coma.
