BOND STAR IN INDEPENDENCE CLAIM
Sir Sean Connery has said he believes Scotland will become an independent country within his lifetime.
In a hint he may be prepared to return to his native country, Sir Sean, 77, says he believes Scotland is "within touching distance" of achieving independence.
The former James Bond actor, who now lives in the Bahamas, had previously said he would only consider returning to Scotland if there was an end to the Union.
In an article in the Scottish Sunday Express, Sir Sean praises Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond and the work of the SNP government since it came into power in May 2007.
Sir Sean writes: "I've always been hopeful about Scotland's prospects. And I now believe more than ever that Scotland is within touching distance of achieving independence and equality."
He adds that the first step towards this was winning Scotland's parliament in 1997.
The second, the actor says, was electing an SNP Government last year.
He adds: "I believe we have what it takes to take the third step, and I am convinced it will happen in my lifetime."
In the article, Sir Sean also hails Scotland for securing its own parliament for the first time since the "parcel of rogues" sold its freedom in 1707.
He adds that Mr Salmond is "the best leader Scotland has ever had" and claims the SNP's opposition parties "can't keep up with the pace".

ILLOGICAL

Sean Connery's position appears illogical.
On the one hand he wants Scotland to become an independent country, but he also praises Alex Salmond. Alex Salmond and the SNP do not want Scotland to become independent. They want it to be a vassal of an overbearing EU superstate.

WELL THAT'S IT THEN

Either Scotland gets its independence or Connery will stay in his sun-drenched,luxurious tax haven.
Let the bugger suffer I say.

So this fool who has not lived in Britain let alone Scotland for decades and paid avoided paying our taxes demands independence and expects us to believe he MAY return if it is granted. Sorry old man I think you've taken on too many blows to the head while filiming the Bond films your long term abscence & lack of finance to the people or economy forfeits your rights.

Has anyone INVITED the pompous Mr. Connery to return, or suggested that he should do so ?
Methinks he fancies that he is far more important than he is.
This country and its people - English AND Scottish - have provided him with a very pleasant lifestyle in return for making a few films. It ill behoves him to insult us in the fashion that he has chosen.
Stay where you are, Connery. The Bahamas is more than welcome to you and your arrogance, and I know nobody in England who is awaiting your return to this United KIngdom with bated breath.

SEAN CONNEY'S INDEPENDENCE CLAIM

I don't think it's befitting of him to come out with remarks like that. In any case what does it matter to him when he doesn't live there.
