MAN DIES IN RAIL LINE ACCIDENT

Police have named the man who was killed on a railway line after he was hit by a train.

Ian Jenkins, 23, from Kenfig Hill, near Bridgend, South Wales, was struck on the track at nearby Pyle station just before 5.20am on Saturday.

British Transport Police said they were treating the incident as a tragic accident and a full report is being prepared for the coroner.

The death was reported by the driver of the 4.55am First Great Western train from Swansea to Hereford.

A statement from BTP said: "The train was travelling through the station at 95mph when it struck and killed Mr Jenkins on the line by platform two."

Rail traffic was suspended in both directions while the body was recovered and taken to hospital.

The lines were clear and handed back to Network Rail at 6.55am.
