ONE DEAD AFTER POLICE CHASE CRASH
An investigation was under way after one person died and four others were injured when their car crashed into a brick wall after a police pursuit.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission said officers in a police patrol car saw a Mazda with five young people being driven erratically through the Bevendean area of Brighton at about 1am on Saturday and signalled for it to stop.
The driver did not respond and, after a pursuit the vehicle crashed into a brick wall, killing one passenger and leaving another critically injured.
All five were taken to the Royal Sussex County hospital, where one has since been discharged.
Police confirmed they have arrested the driver of the Mazda.
A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue, who attended the incident, said at least two occupants of the car were thrown out of it in the ferocity of the crash.
Formal identification has not yet taken place and the IPCC said they would not be releasing any names until next week.
IPCC Commissioner Tom Davies said: "My condolences go to the family and friends of the dead man. This must have been a traumatic incident for everybody involved, including the members of the emergency services who attended.
"The IPCC investigation will be independent and proportionate."
ONLY ONE DEAD
10.02.08, 2:23am
Only one dead but if not stopped it could have been more than one and the others would have been innocent, if they refuse to stop when asked to do so chase them to a point where they are forced into a crash away from other innocent people, I hope these are all paying for their NHS treatment as the injuries are self inflicted, good riddings to the dead one, others should learn from these incidents.

GOOD RIDDANCE
09.02.08, 11:37am
So what are the police supposed to do when they spot an idiot driving dangerously? let them go? No! I don't think so. What is it with all this RED TAPE every time an idiot crashes their car when trying to outrun the police, it's just like the idiots going round with guns, toy or otherwise. The police have a job to do, that's what we pay them for. Only in extreme cases of excessive force, as with the D'Menzez case should they be taken to task. They should also have their rights reinstated, to apprehend and punish these feral louts.

SERVES THEM RIGHT

It serves them right, the police have to have the power to pursue idiots like this that don't stop when signalled to. If they hadnt been doing anything wrong in the first place then this wouldnt have happened.
