AMY NOT AT US AWARDS DESPITE VISA

Saturday February 9,2008

Amy Winehouse has been granted a US visa, but will not perform live at the Grammys, her representatives said.

The singer had previously been denied entry to the US and had made plans to perform at the awards ceremony on Sunday via a satellite link from London.

Her spokesman said: "Following further discussions involving the US Embassy in London and officials in the United States, Amy Winehouse has been granted a visa to enter the United States of America.

"Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be travelling to the US to perform at the Grammys in person. However, she will be performing via satellite broadcast as previously announced."

He added: "Amy would like to thank all of those people, in particular the staff involved at the US Embassy in London, who have all worked so hard to expedite her application.

"She is very sad not to be attending the Grammys in person but wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to all of those involved in the process.

"She is looking forward to being a part of the 50th Annual Grammy Awards with her Sunday night performance and to going back to the US soon."

Earlier on Friday, Winehouse checked out of the Capio Nightingale clinic in north London, where she had been since January 24, to rehearse for her performance.

A spokesman said: "She is feeling great, looking healthy and looking forward to doing what she does best. She will remain under full medical supervision and her treatment will continue as normal."

Winehouse, 24, was determined to perform at the Grammys, where she is nominated for six awards. Her nominations are Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Female Performance, Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album.

SOMETHING WRONG HERE

09.02.08, 2:28pm

In view of the Americans rigid stance on who can and who cant get a visa to go to the States-there has to be something radically wrong with the fact that this junkie/drunkie can have a visa issued to visit there. It is a disgrace that someone who may have a driving disqualification for speeding cant go there, but apparently involvement with drink and drugs to the point where you are almost dead, is no barrier. Well well, thats commonsense for you.
