Flowers left for Bridgend suicide Angeline Fuller, found hanging

Friday February 8,2008

There are no links between the deaths of 14 young people who have been found hanged around one town in just over a year, the local coroner has said.

Philip Walters, coroner for Bridgend and the Glamorgan valleys, said he is concerned about young suicides, and wants an all-Wales strategy created to deal with the problem, but does not believe the recent deaths in the Bridgend area are connected.

Madeleine Moon, Labour MP for Bridgend, held a Commons debate on suicide prevention on Thursday.

Speaking after opening an inquest into the death of 18-year-old Angeline Rani Fuller, the latest young person to die in the county of Bridgend, Mr Walters said: "I'm of the mind that there is no commonality between these deaths, and preliminary investigations say the same.

"I'm glad Madeleine Moon has done what she has, and taken this issue on board. I feel it should be an all-Wales thing. The most important thing is that they get it right, and if that takes a bit longer than some people might like, then so be it."

The inquest heard that Miss Fuller, known as Angie, was from Much Wenlock, Shropshire, but had been living with fiance Joel Williams in Commercial Street, Nantymoel, South Wales, for the past three or four months.

Detective Inspector Jason Redrup, of Bridgend CID, told the inquest at All Hallows Church hall in Miskin, South Wales, that Miss Fuller, Mr Williams and two friends had been drinking on Sunday afternoon and evening. He said "quite a lot" of alcohol was drunk by them all.

The inquest heard Mr Williams went to sleep in his bedroom, and the two friends went home, leaving shop assistant Miss Fuller alone. When he awoke at 1am on Monday, he was unable to get out of his room.

DI Redrup said Mr Williams "became concerned" and smashed the bedroom door, only to find his girlfriend's body hanging on the landing. He called paramedics but they could not revive her.

Mr Walters said a post-mortem examination had been carried out, and that the pathologist's findings are in keeping with hanging. He added: "There is no physical evidence of third party involvement."

YOUNGSTERS' SUICIDES 'NOT LINKED'

16.02.08, 12:07pm

Bridgend County Council, and South Wales Police must take a large portion of the blame for the recent spate of so called 'un-related suicides in Bridgend and the surrounding area.
Any person living in the area, who has'nt got their head firmly embedded in sand, will tell you that there is a deep routed and growing drug culture in the area, and this is severely corroding the fabric of this once proud and wealthy area of South Wales.Hot spots such as 'Wildmill', have recently appeared in local news headlines and Bridgend has been labelled the drugs capital of Britain (reported in national press).
Coupled to this, a county council who squander tax payers money on the pedestrianisaton of the town centre, driving business out of the area with extortionate rates, and an ever growing malaise of out of town shopping developments, has caused the community and it's residentsto lose it's identity.
Local amenities are underfunded, local council housing stock is dilapidated, and gangs of dissefected youths, roam the streets at night.
And with the withdrawl of massive companies such as Sony, from Bridgend and further threatend job loses at the DARA fixed wing base at St Athan, leaves little future for the communities teenagers future.
The majority of work in Bridgend and surrounding towns is minimum wage, low skill, menial work in the service industries.
If I were a teenager I would'nt consider suicide (I have'nt got the stomach for it), but I'd surely be on my bike and moving to an area of the U.K, where my local council, police force, schools and colleges, gave a damn.
Start spending our money wisely Bridgend Council and SWP - Do the job your paid to do and get rid of the drugs. - Now!

DEAD END

08.02.08, 9:02pm

If I lived there, I would be tempted. There is a link there on it's own. And to those who think I'm making light of it, I have the scars on my wrists from the depths of despair, there is a link to the internet, it's the only life that some young people know outside of school. Nothing is as interesting as technology to young people, they are learning nothing unless it's on a screen of some sort. Anyone out there thinking of death? talk to me, I came back.
