POLICE MAY PROBE HAIN DONATIONS
Sleaze inquiries into donations to Peter Hain's campaign for the Labour deputy leadership could eventually lead to a police investigation, a supporter of the embattled Work and Pensions Secretary acknowledged.
But Labour MP Ian Lucas insisted that Mr Hain could continue in his Cabinet job even if the police are called in.
Legislation passed by the Labour government allows for criminal prosecutions if rules on political funding are breached, but the Electoral Commission declined to say whether this could be the outcome of its inquiry into Mr Hain's donations.
"We are not commenting on whether it is an option or not an option," said a Commission spokeswoman. "All we are saying is we are doing our initial compliance checks and will put the information we receive into our registers. Should there be any compliance issues, we will follow them up."
Mr Lucas said in an interview: "It's always been a possibility that the police might be brought in, because these are very serious matters".
But he insisted it was "entirely tenable" for Mr Hain to remain Work and Pensions Secretary during any police inquiry.
He added: "Peter Hain has said he has made mistakes, he has apologised and gone to the Electoral Commission and gone through all the disclosures that were made... It was perfectly in order for him to take the money. What was wrong, and he has admitted this, is that he ought to have disclosed it at the time."
Mr Hain has promised to cooperate fully with inquiries by the Commission and the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner into his failure to disclose more than £103,000 in donations to his failed deputy leadership bid last year.
But Conservatives demanded immediate answers to a set of questions about the gifts and about the Progressive Policies Forum (PPF) think-tank through which they were channelled.
Meanwhile, Conservatives were forced to fend off allegations about donations of flights made to David Cameron during his campaign for the party leadership in 2005.

ALL FOR ONE

The trouble with modern Parliament,”they are unaccountable except to themselves” and we the electorate are complacent enough to allow this to happen.
The trouble with M Ps, they feel once elected it exonerates them from normal protocols and that they should be allowed to hide behind their mantle as a supposed upright citizen.
Then when they are caught with fingers in the tills surrounding them from whatever source, claim they were unaware of any misdemeanors and whinge and whine like little School children “”Please miss it wasn’t me it was someone else””
AS FOR POLICE INVESTIGATION TO PROVE ANYTHING AND WE KNOW THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME AND PUBLIC SECTOR MONEY

PC Plod to investigate politicians! well we all know where that ended last time, lots of time and money wasted trying to prosecute the untouchables. The useless Blair and his so called officers couldn't catch a cold. Anyway the cops of "NEW Scotland Yard" are all on their jollies investigating Bhuto's murder in Pakistan, at our expense as usual.

£100,000 " PERHAPS WHILE YOUR AT IT !!!!! MR PLOD "

You might be able to make a few "enquiries" as to why Mr Hain and his esteemed collegues have managed to do in ten years to England what Hiltler couldnt manage in five using one of the biggest mobilisation of troops in History ? the decimation of England !!
The £100,000 pales into comparison to the Charge of Treason . i am sure there are many likeminded people awaiting the outcome of your "investigation". just cut to the chase. save you a lot of time and effort. go and have word with Gordon Mcgrumble. he already knows the outcome !!

LAW BY DEGREES!
15.01.08, 11:10am
Well that is how it is dispensed at any rate!
An unemployed father of three with huge debts forgets to declare £5 of earnings over his allowance and he is a criminal.
But a politician forgets to declare over £100k and he is guilty of an unfortunate oversight.
Multimillion pound corporate tax evasion is good business practice.
Failing to complete a tax return which probably means that you are liable to pay £20 will get you a £100 fine.
Justice there is none so why waste another penny of taxpayers money on an investigation thats outcome will have been decided before it begins!
