CHILDREN DIE AS CHURCH TORCHED

Story Image

A mob torched a church in Eldoret sheltering hundreds of people fleeing post-election violence Tues

Wednesday January 2,2008

By Mark Reynolds

AT LEAST 25 children were burned alive in a church yesterday in the most sickening horror in three days of bloodshed across Kenya.

Their screams could be heard as a mob set fire to the building where families had huddled to take refuge from the violence.

Some 25 adults, many of them women, also died in the inferno in the western town of Eldoret.
The murders, confirmed by the Red Cross, bring the death toll in three days of bloodshed to 270.

In Eldoret, charred bodies lay in and outside the church as its remains lay smouldering yesterday.
One witness said: “I saw about 10 to 15 bodies crammed in a corner. They were charred. I could not look at the scene twice.”

Dozens more victims were being treated in hospital for severe burns.
Most were members of the same Kikuyu ethnic group as the newly re-elected President Mwai Kibaki.
In urban areas across the East African country scores were shot dead by police as some protesters continued to demonstrate amid claims that the election was rigged, stealing victory from Mr Kibaki’s opponent Raila Odinga.

In one city mortuary, 100 bodies were piled high. Most were young men, but observers counted two women and three children.

All had been shot, with bullet wounds clearly visible in the legs, chest, stomach and back. One man had been hit by a bullet in the head. There were claims that police had fired indiscriminately at protesters, even after they began running away.

The violence has uncovered tribal tensions, with the majority Kikuyus supporting Mr Kibaki and the Luo community backing Mr Odinga.

As the day wore on the streets of Kenya’s major cities were almost deserted, with police in full riot gear patrolling in armoured vehicles.

Shops and businesses have been closed down and the water supply to many areas has been cut.
But desperation and hunger has driven some people on to the streets in search of food. As they step over bodies still lying where they fell, their very presence creates the danger of further gunfire.

Up to 19,000 Britons are thought to be in Kenya, 12,000 of them
expats and 7,000 of them tourists on safaris or beach holidays around Mombasa.

The Foreign Office has advised Britons there to stay indoors – and is advising everyone else to avoid travelling to the riot-torn country unless “absolutely necessary”.  Yesterday both the European Union and the United States piled on the diplomatic pressure by refusing to congratulate Mr Kibaki on winning a second five-year term.

Gordon Brown urged Kenya’s political leaders to talk.
But it is thought his plea was rejected by Mr Odinga.
There are fears that the bloodshed could escalate today unless the authorities can stop his planned mass rally – calling for a million supporters to demonstrate in Nairobi.

EU observers have called for an inquiry into the election results, saying that the poll was “flawed”.

THERE FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD

02.01.08, 7:55pm

Destruction and misery are in their ways: and the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes, Roman 3:16-18.

The above scripture from Paul's letter to the Roman graphically describes the murder and carnage involving the descreation of God's sanctuary. The murder of children and women taking refuge in God's house tells us that we are living in the end time when people have lost the fear of God. God's house should have given those taking refuge immunity from phsical violence, but instead the godless mob, terrorists descended upon his house to murder those seeking his refuge.

They have shed the blood of Christians in God's house just because they belong to Christ.

Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.

And help the murderers to realise that is hard for them to kick against the goad because it Jesus Christ whom they are persecuting by killing and murdering those who calls upon your name

Please Lord forgive this killings in Jesus name.

COMING SOON...AT A VENUE NEAR YOU

02.01.08, 1:33pm

The primitive tribal mentality which results in this kind of savagery is already in evidence in areas of our own country where rival black gangs attack, shoot and knife their rivals.
Continue to allow waves of immigrants to come here from the third world and just watch Britain sink into a state of internal chaos and violence unknown for centuries.

BURN IN HELL

02.01.08, 12:08pm

I hope who ever done this dispicable act will burn in Hell. As a Christian I am supposed to hate the sin and not the person, but this horrible act of savagery I cannot!
