Medics called officers from Greater Manchester Police to North Manchester General Hospital after the men arrived bleeding.

A force spokesman said the investigation was at a very early stage and details were scant.

One man died at hospital, a second is being treated for shotgun injuries to the back and a third was grazed by a bullet.

No other details were available.
