FOXY'S 'LINGERIE TRIP' AS MEREDITH LAY DEAD

VICTIM: Meredith Kercher had her throat cut

Saturday November 24,2007

By John Chapman

SUSPECT Amanda Knox shopped for sexy underwear the day after Meredith Kercher was found with her throat slit.

American “Foxy Knoxy”, 20, and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 23, were overheard looking forward to a night of “wild sex”, it emerged yesterday.

Leeds university exchange student Meredith, 21, from Coulsdon, Surrey, was found dead in her bedroom in Perugia, Italy, on November 2.

She died, detectives believe, after being forced to take part in an “extreme sex game”, before being raped.

Yesterday, it also emerged that Sollecito has asked to be interviewed by the lead investigator in the case.

His lawyers visited Giuliano Mignini at his offices in Perugia to present the request.

Sollecito could be interviewed as soon as next Thursday, a day before a planned court appearance which will
re-examine the evidence against him and Knox.

Another suspect, 20-year-old Rudy Hermann Guede, was arrested in Germany and is  awaiting extradition.

He admits having sex with Meredith the night she died but, like the other suspects, he denies any involvement in the killing.

A shopkeeper, 30-year-old Carlo Maria Scotto di Rinaldi, spoke to police on November 8 after recognising Knox and Sollecito on the TV news.

He told police: “They came into the shop and were there for about 20 minutes. The girl bought a vest and a G-string.

“I heard her as she was choosing the underwear – particularly the G-string – and as they were ready to pay, in front of the till, she whispered, ‘Afterwards, I’m going to take you home so we can have wild sex together’.”

Mr di Rinaldi added that while they were shopping, the couple hugged and kissed openly, in a way other shoppers noted was “exhibitionist”.

Knox and Sollecito were arrested on November 6, along with Congolese bar owner Diya “Patrick” Lumumba, 38, who was released on Tuesday because of a lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, lawyers acting for Guede hope to win the go-ahead to visit their client in Germany.

They submitted an urgent request to Perugia’s prosecutor general, Judge Claudia Matteoti, after they discovered that his extradition to Italy could take as long as three weeks.

If they are granted permission to speak to Guede, the  lawyers will be joined by his father Roger, who has appeared on TV to protest his son’s innocence.

He said: “I won’t leave my son on his own.

“I feel he is innocent. It cannot have been him that carried out this murder.”

Last night, forensic results showed that Guede had sex with Miss Kercher on the night she died.

DNA taken from his toothbrush matched that found on the victim and in the bathroom of the house she was found in.

Guede has admitted to being in the house but claimed that he was in the bathroom when he heard Meredith scream and then later tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate her.

He said that an Italian man he does not know carried out the crime.

One of Guede’s lawyers, Vittorio Lombardo, said that the DNA results did not mean that his client was guilty because they did not suggest the sex was not consensual.
