UK NEWSMEREDITH BLED TO DEATH IN AGONYSaturday November 10,2007 By John ChapmanMURDERED Meredith Kercher died a “slow and agonising death”, it emerged yesterday.
The last horrifying moments of the 21-year-old student were revealed in an Italian judge’s report. Judge Claudia Matteini said Miss Kercher bled to death slowly because the knife used to slash her throat missed her carotid artery. Had it been severed she would have died in seconds.[>
The judge’s findings blow apart the three suspects’ claims that they were not involved in her death. American student Amanda Knox, 20, her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 24, and Congolese bar owner Patrick Diya Lumumba, 38, are accused of murdering the Leeds University student from Coulsdon, south London.[>
Police believe that Ms Kercher died when she refused to take part in a drunken sexual encounter involving the three suspects.[>
Judge Matteini also ruled that the three should stay in jail in Perugia for up to a year as it was “highly probable” they would try to flee Italy.[>
In her report on the murder inquiry, she said: “The verdict reached is that was caused by a haemorrhage from a neck wound after the blow of a sharp and pointed weapon. [>
“It emerges that the wound had not hit the carotid artery so the death was preceded by a relatively slow agony.”[>
She said police were confronted by an appalling scene when they entered the apartment which Meredith shared with Knox.[>
“There was a chilling scene with bloodstains everywhere, on the ground and on the walls, and also under the duvet of the bed a foot could be seen.[>
“The agents, in order to avoid any pollution of the crime scene, stopped everyone from entering the room.”[>
From 120 useful fingerprints and other samples, police revealed that 40 belonged to flatmates or regular visitors, while the remaining 80 came from “unknown individuals”. None belonged to Lumumba.[>
Matches were made with Nike trainers owned by Sollecito and imprints found in the bloodstains.[> One imprint was found under the duvet which had been used to cover Meredith’s lifeless body which according to Judge Matteini “represented a sign of serious evidence of Sollecito’s guilt”.[> The judge added that a flick knife found in his possession with an 8.5cm blade and which was compatible with the wound in Meredith’s throat was also of significance.[>
According to court documents, Meredith’s hour of death was given as around 11pm on November 1 and she had eaten her last meal at 9pm the same night. [>
Last night Knox’s solicitor Luciano Ghirga said police would be asking her parents to encourage her to confess to police.[>
She said: “All of the lawyers have imposed on Amanda the gravity of her situation, and [> the gravity of accusing other people. They have all told her that she needs to tell the truth because there have been differences in the statements.[>
“We have asked her family to persuade her in the hope that her parents will ask her to tell the truth. There have been differing statements.”[>

DEATH PENALTY FOR ALL 3 !

When you read such an article as this, you question why the perpetrators should live out their natural lives when this young lady was shown no mercy by them at all.

Its such a sad story. I feel for her family. I do think the daily mail should have had more consideration for them. One more thing. Very important! I read the whole story in the paper. Patrick Lumumba is the least linked going by the knife, the blood and all ... but he's the one who's picture features the most in the paper and not a single picture of the Italian boyfriend although his trainer prints were found, knife and that. Would that have anything to do with the fact that he's black????

I'm afraid I just couldn't bring myself to read all the explicit details of what happened to this poor gir after seeing the awful headline, but I do know that she died in great pain and stress - what a damning indictment on today's world that this sort of thing can happen to a pretty young girl. There have been various cases of young female students coming to a very sad end in foreign countries. However, parents should not try to stop their youngsters from travelling abroad because of these sad cases, although I can understand if they try to. Life is a lottery that's for sure! I feel so sad for Meredith and for her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

PRAYERS

My prayers go out to Meredith and her family. How sad that society has gotten to this point of sensationalism. May her family have peace and may God bring them comfort during this difficult time.

INSENSITIVE

What a shocking headline. Where is the compassion for Merediths family? Even if it is true, it is inexcusable to be so insensitive to the feelings of her family and friends. The DE has gone down in my estimation.

The Daily Express has stooped to a new low with this headline.
Not a thought of how it must affect her friends and family. Absolutely shameful
