MAN QUIZZED OVER TAKEAWAY STABBING

Saturday August 18,2007

Police are continuing to question a man after a teenager died after being stabbed in the neck following a row in a takeaway.

Andrew Holland was one of two 16-year-old boys attacked outside Ashy's Takeaway in Plodder Lane, Farnworth, Greater Manchester, at about 10.50pm on Friday, following an argument thought to involve one of the victims.

Police found Andrew, of Trentham Gardens, Farnworth, collapsed and bleeding. Both teenagers were taken to Rochdale Infirmary where Andrew later died.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died of a single stab wound to the neck. The other boy, who has not been named, remained in a serious condition.

A murder inquiry was launched and house-to-house inquiries were taking place close to the scene.

A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and assault is being questioned by detectives.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "It is believed there was an altercation outside the takeaway.

"One of those involved was a customer. The staff at the takeaway were not involved.

"Andrew was found collapsed and taken to Rochdale Infirmary where he later died. The other 16-year-old remains in a serious condition."

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the incident to call 0161 856 8259 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
