DEBATE: ARE THE TORIES HOPELESSLY OUT OF TOUCH?

Story Image

Do YOU think the Tories are out of touch?

Monday February 15,2010

THE CONSERVATIVES were today left red-faced after claiming more than half of girls in the most deprived areas fell pregnant before their 18th birthday.

Tory leader David Cameron faced embarrassment over the assertion, in a dossier attacking Labour’s record, as he was trying to establish his “progressive” credentials.

He and Tory chairman Eric Pickles today launched a new poster campaign designed to reach out to voters who would not usually vote Conservative.

The party released a 20-page document yesterday detailing what it called “Labour’s Two Nations” and the disparity between the life chances of rich and poor.

But the strategy was set back when it emerged that figures on teenage pregnancy in the poorest areas were vastly exaggerated.

It claimed that the conception rate among under-18 girls in the 10 most disadvantaged areas was 54 per cent. The real figure was 54 per 1,000.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CONSERVATIVES' BLUNDER?

ARE THEY 'OUT WITH TOUCH' WITH MODERN BRITAIN'S PROBLEMS?

HOW WILL YOU VOTE IN THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION?

HONESTY

16.03.10, 11:37am

I am surprised that the Conservatives do not hammer home the point that another five years of Labour will almost certainly mean our being so totally absorbed into Europe that extrication to any meaningful degree will be impossible. After the failure to hold a referendum - although solemnly promised verbally and in their manifesto – no promise made by Labour during this election can be trusted. A person or organisation that has shown themselves to have no respect for honour and truth rarely has the innate decency to change their ways. All of us who voted for Labour in the last two elections should apologise profoundly to our children and grandchildren.

BEING OUT OF TOUCH

11.03.10, 3:57pm

I'm beginning to realize why such a campaign was launched to cry out against single mothers. Obviously, if the Tories, the whole group present in Parliament, let that error go through without anyone realizing at the time, that not 5,4 but 54% of girls under 18 become pregnant, it goes to show where they have got their eyes, certainly not in the streets of everyday life Britain. I'd suggest people choose at the next General Election if they want to vote for people who live a life of flying to Brussels and other exotic places and staying at 5 star hotels and being chaufered through the streets of London, or for people who actually know what is happening in our Country.
However, as you want to know for whom I will vote, it will be for a Party that tells us clearly now that they will get us out of the e.u. immediately!

ARE THE TORIES HOPELESSLY OUT OF TOUCH?

11.03.10, 11:35am

At the risk of being accused of getting my priorities wrong, I won't vote labour this time because they are useless on, apart from most other things, law and order. I might have considered Tories but Cameron is seemingly much concerned with bringing back fox and stag hunting. I minor issue some might think... however, what sort of a vile twisted mind wants to reintroduce such cruelty? I don't want our country ruled by such a barbaric personality or party backing him. So, foolhardy as it may be, I think this time I'll vote for the 'Monster Raving Loony Party' - actually, you could name the ones we've got now precisely that! And the real MRLP can't be any worse?

ARE THE TORIES HOPELESSLY OUT OF TOUCH

05.03.10, 12:36pm

The simple answer is yes. David Cameron is not a leader of men he is merely a follower. A follower of what he identifies as trendy in his small corseted world. He appears to look intelligent but behind his gaze is a man who has an ego which will drive his policies instead of intellectual thought and what the public wants. He will not discuss immigration because he identifies the large immigrant population as vote winners even though they will not assimilate into the UK society. Immigration is the one subject he should be discussing because it is this folly which drives our taxes higher each year, ruins the National Health system, places a huge strain on amenities. He has pet projects i.e protecting African homosexuals from abuse and many other crank ideas. I have been a Tory voter for as long as I can remember but this time around Cameron's style of Conservatism will NOT be not be receiving my vote. He is a disaster waiting to happen and within the next two years will be seen as a vacuous, egotistic individual with no feel for the people he claims to represent and will hopefully be sent packing.

Yes, they lied about the Lisbon Treaty and Lord Ashcroft. What other Cast Iron guarantees have they given?
