'KING' KEANE CAN'T WIN CELTIC THE TITLE, DECLARES TRAPPATONI

Trappatoni told Celtic even Robbie Keane won't win them the SPL title

Tuesday February 9,2010

By Iain Macfarlane

GIOVANNI Trappatoni last night told Celtic even the mercurial Robbie Keane won't win them the SPL title.

The Republic of Ireland boss reckons new Bhoy Keane is a superstar signing  but his goals alone won't be enough to topple Rangers.

The former Italy, Juventus and Bayern Munich coach is delighted his international skipper has kick started his career in Glasgow after a frustrating spell at Spurs.

But the managerial legend , 71 next month, believes Keane has arrived at Parkhead too late to claw back 10 points and halt their bitter rivals' march to the title.

Trappatoni said: "What is the gap now on Rangers? It's up to 10 points, well for me that's already too much. Rangers have a very strong and tough team and I fear that 10 points is too much for Celtic to get back. Robbie will improve the Celtic side, because he's a fantastic player but it's a lot for him to do on his own."

Keane bagged his first Celtic goal in Sunday's 4-2 Cup win at Dunfermline. And Trappatoni has promised to keep a keen eye on 29-year-old Keane and Irish team-mate Aiden McGeady in the months ahead.

He added: "Perhaps there will now be the opportunity for me to come to Glasgow to see Robbie and Aiden play.At the moment it's better for Ireland and for Robbie to play at Celtic.Robbie is very important for Ireland."
