The court heard that her victim had just bought a round of drinks for her friends when Attrill set upon her and broke a bottle over her head.

Miss Reeves said: “The glass smashed everywhere and then she dragged it down my face. I can remember just standing there holding my face and head because it was hurting so much.

“I looked down and I was totally covered in blood. My clothes were just red and people all around me were moving away and screaming.

“I was standing there thinking it was my head that was bleeding but then I touched my face and it was all bleeding.
“It was completely cut open from my left eyelid down beneath my cheek.”

She was rushed to hospital with severe cuts to her cheek, eyelid and lips that required emergency facial surgery.
She only escaped blindness because she was wearing contact lenses which deflected shards of glass from her eyes.

She said: “It seems they may have saved my sight and stopped me from going blind.

“The lens had shattered into five pieces and there were three pieces of glass pulled out from the back of my eye. They told me it was a miracle I still had my sight and my eye.”

Jailing Attrill on Tuesday, Mr Recorder Stewart Jones, QC, told the mother of three: “You said you were disgusted by what you have done. Those words can’t wipe out the seriousness of the action and the gravity of the consequences.”

Research shows that 5,000 people a year fall victim to bottle and glass attacks in Britain, prompting calls for a full ban on all glass in pubs and clubs.
