An arrest has been made in Liverpool in connection with the national terror alert, Merseyside Police confirmed.

Four other people have been arrested as Britain moved to its highest state of terror alert after three failed car bombings in London and Glasgow.

Police are linking an attempt to ram a flaming Jeep Cherokee into Glasgow Airport on Saturday to the discovery of two car bombs in the capital's West End on Friday.

Two men inside the Jeep were arrested at the airport, although one of them suffered severe burns after being engulfed in flames and is now in a critical condition in hospital.

Anti-terror officers from the Met and West Midlands Police later arrested a further two people in Cheshire in connection with all the attacks, Scotland Yard said.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police confirmed the arrests on the M6 on Saturday night were terror-related.

"Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Counter Terrorism Command, supporter by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, made the arrests on the M6 in Cheshire near Sandbach."

A 26-year-old man and 27-year-old woman arrested on the M6 on Saturday night were being interviewed at a central London police station, Scotland Yard later said.

A motorist said he saw the arrests taking place on the M6. Peter Whitehead told the BBC three unmarked police cars brought traffic to a halt on the motorway.

He said: "In front of them were a couple of other unmarked police cars and they forced a car onto the hard shoulder and got the occupants out and as far as I can see arrested them."

4 out of a 1000??? We are so naive! 4 out of a 1000??? We should be so lucky! Is every Muslim a terrorist? NO! However, you wouldn't know it by the silence that they keep. Put England first before it is too late.

To add remarks such as the right wing extremists will have a field day attacking hard working indians, is a bit like incitement of trouble, is it not.How come the so called right wing extremist(I assume you are refering to the BNP)is the one you are more concerned about,and not the nutters, who are trying to kill as many as they can. As for the spelling,not your stongest point.

How much longer do we have to put up with “Critical Alerts” of terrorism in our once peaceful country! Surely our political leaders, police and security forces must realise they can’t just wait for terrorist acts to occur before stronger action is applied, they must tackle the root of the problem, which is known to be within the Muslim Community. The leaders of these communities should be made to understand that any further atrocities by their fanatics would cause mass deportation of Muslims from our country, before a massive back-lash from our peace-loving people occurs! I dread this happening but I’m certain it will if our leaders don’t take firm and strong action immediately! One wonders why these people came here, who hate us so much? Perhaps it was to destroy us, which appears to be the case!

The so-called, self appointed Muslim leaders must get off their rears and speak out very clearly against these fundamentalist idiots that are prepared to kill anyone and everyone regardless of their race/religion in the UK.

The right wing extremist will have a field day and innocent Muslims, and other ''Asian' especially hard working, and generally law abiding Indians will become targets of the right wing fools!!!

The media needs to make clear for the uneducated thatg these attackers were ''Muslin'' but dod not trpresent the law abding people of the uk.

The so-called self appointed leaders of the Muslim community need to appear on tv and back the demand for holding potentia terrorists withoit charge for 90 days or more!!
