The Scottish actress, who has lived in Los Angeles since landing a role in US comedy Ugly Betty, says that despite not possessing iconic beauty she’s happier as she is than trying to emulate someone else.

“I’ve never been the most attractive person in the room and I’ve never been the ugliest,” sighs the 39-year-old, who rose to fame in Ricky Gervais’s Extras.

“But I’ve always felt marginally nice looking. It worries me that we’re trying to look like other people and saying: ‘I want a nose like that.’ I’ve always felt you’re your own special package.

“You don’t need to try to be the next Angelina Jolie or Cameron Diaz. Be the first whoever you are.”
