Warhol's lover Danny Williams disappeared in 1966

THE more one learns about Andy Warhol, the less there is to like.

Danny Williams was Warhol’s lover and a promising young film-maker who disappeared in 1966. He has been virtually erased from the history books.

In A Walk Into The Sea: Danny Williams And The Warhol Factory, his niece Esther Robinson investigates the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and tries to get a sense of his place in the Warhol firmament.

The discovery of his long-lost films helps to establish Williams’s talent but Robinson often finds herself at the mercy of the unreliable, contradictory and often self-serving memories of Warhol associates such as Paul Morrissey, John Cale and Harold Stevenson.

The result is a very personal, plaintive documentary in which the great artistic community flourishing in Sixties New York seems long ago and far away.
