THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN

By Gameboy

It's always worth a return to Narnia and this fantasy game is sure to appeal to children currently flocking to the cinemas for this CS Lewis classic.

Developed by the studio behind Lego Indiana Jones, once again the Pevensie children are thrown headlong into a frantic adventure - this time to help Prince Caspian usurp a tyrant and regain his throne.

Characters such as centaurs, minotaurs, giants and enchanted trees will help players successfully complete their mission. A year has passed after the events of the first film, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - but  that's 1,300 years in Narnian time.

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are magically whisked back to a more savage land, where Narnia is under the rule of evil King Miraz. Impressive graphics and a dark underworld are sure to please younger gamers.

Hitting the control buttons as fast as possible will slay most enemies.

Most of the levels focus on combat and a combination of puzzles and quest missions. The game offers a wide selection of  characters. Many have unique abilities - a dwarf can fit into small spaces, a minotaur can bash obstacles, Edmund Pevensie carries a flashlight.  But all have the same basic moves.

Potions provide healing powers, strength, and vigour after an energetic battle. Spells can be cast on enemies, causing them to move slowly, suffer more damage or become scared.

Solve puzzles by causing a staircase to rise out of the ground, pull switches to open gates or smash walls by pushing over statues.

There are items to collect and chests to unlock for bonus content, and the occasional movie clip. Verdict: fighting the good fight can be fun.
