Pele called Maradona a 'bad example" for taking drugs

Saturday March 13,2010

IT IS still handbags at dawn for the world’s top football legends.

Last year, Brazilian Pele shocked fans by calling Argentinian Diego Maradona a “bad example” for taking drugs, to which Maradona retorted that Pele had lost his virginity to a man.

And it seems that the players are still a little tetchy about the whole affair.

Due to meet Pele and French player Zinedine Zidane in Madrid for a photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz Maradona, now Argentina’s national coach, made them wait four-and-a-half hours.

Pele, 69, and Zidane, 37, arrived on time at 3pm at Molly Malone’s bar in the centre of the Spanish capital on Tuesday for the advert which sees the three former players drinking a beer together while watching the World Cup.

But 49-year-old Maradona waltzed in at 7.30pm as the photography session was coming to an end.
