ARTICLE SUMMARY

Do we need more police back on our streets?

THE people of Britain yesterday demanded more police on the streets as yet another teenager became a victim of knife crime.

YES . WE NEED MORE POLICE ON THE STREETS

27.07.08, 6:03am

But what we will be given is Trade Union Police to suit the union leaders because they will say that they are already there. Labour intends that chaos will reign and we will be stupidly glad to have CSO:s (Communist support officers) The fact that cso's are not very bright will be obvious to the unions and it will make controlling them easier. Their mental level will be carefully chosen to facilitate this. Then we can get ready for Stalinist style policing where people will be removed from society for not being left wing extremists. If this sounds crazy the proof will come when it is to late to do anything about it.

If you look very carefully at TV programs a tendency for political control of what we are allowed to watch is becoming very noticeable, the current Big Brother is a very good example. What has happened is that entrants to the house have to include the disabled, ethnic minorities and voting is now done by the big brother staff under instruction from the unions. What there is at the moment is A blind person and an albino whinger who is just a spoilt grown up brat. The other blind person is just there but will not be voted out as his post office union colleague (Mario the Magistrate, health & safety, Tried and tested ex - body builder man) was. Also Mo the Muslim is there to satisfy the politically correct brigade. When the winner is finally decided will they draw straws for it or will a decision on who can the government ignore be made and who will they offend least of all.

I have said before that minority groups will prosper under Labour rule, they include most of the lowest of the low including pedophiles, organised crooks and many others.

DO WE NEED MORE POLICE BACK ON OUR STREETS?

24.07.08, 2:20pm

Yes we do but of the old variety who would not think twice before giving 'our miserable specimens of feral yoof'' a clip round the ear. Of course it will never happen until we get rid of this 'wet-f*rt' government of ours and we leave the EU with all it's politicaly correct baggage.

AND FOR YOU CHRIS MY FINAL WORDS

15.07.08, 6:45pm

Your idea was flawed from the start, totally unworkable, you know it (now), I know it, anyone who reads this knows it, so thats that.

If education and re-habilitation worked I would support it, it does for some, but does not for the career criminal. The only thing they understand is draconian punishment.

People are all different, different natures, different personalities, different values, you cannot have a "one rule fits all" solution.

I find your reference to me as tigger and tiggs ??????? somewhat amusing as as smacks of playground name calling, but if thats your thing .... so be it.

As for my blood pressure .... have no fear ... I pride myself on keeping as fit as I can, training at the gym is my main hobby, and my last physical revealed excellent blood pressure.

Sometimes Chris when you know that you are wrong you should accept it, without resorting to name calling.

AND THIS JUST IN...

14.07.08, 10:46pm

How about we do away with the burdon of CPS running the police, how about cutting out all the crappy paperwork that centres on the offender's favourite colour? How about the removal of the horrifically complicated, ill-thought out and botched laws Labour has introduced? How about the removal of the PC brigade who value employing peope from 'minorities' rather than those who can do the job? How about the removal of a government that has done more to undermine law and order in the last ten years than any other previous administration? How about slashing the £1bn+ legal aid bill to fund more police officers? How about more prison spaces to cater for the vast increase in foreign national prisoner population? How about moving more poice officers froim bean-counting roles to actual policiing? How about having a press that actually SUPPORTS the police rather than trying to make a quick buck out of the most commonly accept tripe and lies about law enforcement? How about effective sentencing and the removal of Whitehall's ability to dictate terms given by the courts via sentencing guidelines? How about an increase in wages for CPS lawyers so there is a chance to attract wheat rather than chaff?

I could go on but you get the message. There is no consideration for the electorate. Unless that is of course, you happen to be a solicitor working for the defence. Then for you my son, the Earth is yours.

TIGGER, MY FINAL WORDS.

14.07.08, 10:32pm

Tigger as we are hijacking this thread , i will make these my last words. Years ago there were police houses on estates, i know this because the estate i grew up on had a number of police houses on it, which even to this day still have the stone police crest's above their front door, so the idea isn't a new one, i also remember when they were occupied, the police officer living there was an integral part of the community and all in all things seemed much better in comparison to today.

"So I say again" - given the chance, with the perks previously mentioned some police officers 'if asked' might like the challenge or opportunity to live in funded houses in order to make a real difference to the lives of the "many decent people" who live on troubled estates.

I agree stiff sentences play a part Tiggs, but there has got to be more to it than that, what happens when these people are released again?, the reality is they become well connected with other criminals inside, they learn new criminal skills from other prisoners, they know they have no chance of finding work on release, they cannot earn money, they have no were to live and little or no future ("they deserve it i agree").

Unfortunately the reality is that without any reconditioning, re-educating etc the majority of criminals have nothing to lose and will re-offend on release, the cycle goes on and on.

If "just the stick" is applied the situation will only get worse, without an "effective" rehabilitation system in place these walking "time bombs" will be left to their own devices on release, roaming around the UK looking for easy prey to live off. Without 'effective rehabilitation programmes' you are just storing up trouble for the future.

Anyway Tiggs, i think we will have to agree to disagree but thats life and thats why these
"have your say columns exist", i have enjoyed raising your blood pressure, but no hard feelings i am sure we will fence words again.

Yours for the last time on this subject,

ELChrisgre

OH DEAR - IV'E RATTLED CHRIS'S CAGE

14.07.08, 5:47pm

Listen Chris, you have'nt got it, you never had it and by the tone of your rant you never will.

First, police officers will never be "made" to live on "crime ridden" housing estates, it just wont happen, it cannot be done ..... so that puts paid to your wonderful idea.

Secondly I never ever said that there were no decent people, even of the worst of council estates, of course there are, perhaps even they are the majority, but are cowed by the "vermin"

There you are I've used the word "vermin" again, how would you describe criminals who are destroying our societies, perhaps "dis-advantaged", "mis-understood" maybe ..... I prefer vermin.

However lets look at your words.....

today's thuggish element (vermin)

run down troublesome estates (caused by vermin)

crime ridden housing estates (once again vermin)

The only way to solve the problem is severe and appropriare sentencing, no remission, and jails that are not holiday camps.

You just ain't going to get police officers made to live in your "crime ridden housing estates" and dont forget ..... not ALL residents are committing the crimes.

P.S. Why do I use a "ficticious" name ..... look around the posts on this site mate, YOU are the odd one out.

ELTIGRE - I DO GET IT HONESTLY

13.07.08, 7:50pm

Quote ELTIGRE : "You still dont get it ..... police officers are entitled to live a normal life like the rest of us..... why dont you go live on a run down council estate and "preach to the vermin that live there...... or is it just that you need a police officer to hide behind ...."

Yes police officers are entitled to a normal life, accepted, but you are saying people on run down estates don't live or want to live normal lives?, i think you've revealed your "true colours" in stating that "vermin live on run down estates", there are many "decent hard working people" who live on "run down estates", i grew up on one of the biggest housing estates in the northwest so i have experienced both the good and the bad sides, as for needing a police officer to stand behind that sounds like your department, remember not all people on run down estates are "vermin" my friend, with opinions like that i suggest it's you who requires a "police officer to stand behind", also why do you use an alias online? why not "stand behind" your own comments? Is it "ELTIGRE or just EL Tigger"

P.S. ("Some police officers might like the idea of free housing, utilities etc, how do you know they wouldn't?").

Take a nap and let me know.

THE SHOCK OF THEIR LIVES

11.07.08, 3:10pm

I was very impressed with the article written by Joanna Walters - what a splendid idea, real policing - we don't have that over here just crime crime crime. What we should do instead of wasting the expertise of our forces, we should use people that are due for release to strongly supervise the criminals that we let out on our streets - using the tactics that the Mayor of New York applied over there, the military have discipline and they could pass that on to these individuals that our courts seem to tuck up in bed and bring them a cup of tea in the mornings so to speak. Schools should be set up run by the ex-military people who will punish these individuals properly - give them statutory training as used in the basic service training for 16 weeks and see how they turn out at the end - give them community work to do - i.e. cleaning the hospitals, streets, removing grafiti, repairing roads etc etc - Boy George and the super model found out the hard way, that will teach them to behave like animals.

Please pass this on to one of your friendly MP's - a determined type, a job like that would stop the military personnel that leave to end up homeless - it will be a job created for the benefit of all of us.

When I was in the Navy I was for a short time, given a job of escorting prisoners for court martial the staff in the the Navy detention quarters scared the life out of me - all ex-Marines and I was the escort!. They are the sort of people to run this suggested project, people that have faced the enemy - terrific people.

Best Regards, Lionel Clover

ITS UP TO US, WHY ARE WE LETTING HAPPEN

10.07.08, 10:04am

Why not use 'People power', we can make changes if we pull together, the people who running and ruining our country are a few compared to the people, if we continue to let them get away with it nothing will change, they were not elected to ruin the country with their monopoly of daft ideas and obvious support of the jobsworth.
What government offers the people 'sweeties' to go out and vote, pretty obvious if they had anything worth voting for people would turn out. They must know by now the discontent of the people

ELTORRO: "CHRIS......YOU LOST IT MATE"

09.07.08, 8:20pm

"CHRIS......YOU LOST IT MATE"

08.07.08, 11:09pm

Eltorro, we all have to make sacrifices for the good of the nation. I accept that police officers should not be "made to live on troubled estates"
they should firstly be asked and then gently persuaded or perhaps bribed (sorry did i say bribed?). The idea sounds a bit radical to people with "closed minds" but i feel the time has come to be more innovative in our policing stratergies in order to tackle today's thuggish element, perhaps police officers could move into "fully refurbished properties" on run down troublesome estates (again heavily subsidised rent and utilities mind with option to purchase included!) for periods of 18 months, treating it almost like a "tour of duty", real world coppering!, they could be continually rotated in and out of these areas until all the problems are resolved!

Eltorro, they don't have to take their famillies with them soldiers don't when they do a tour of duty. Eltorro no bull, i mean every word?.

Case closed M'lud.

ZERO TOLERENCE

09.07.08, 2:34pm

We should copy the New York system, taking a hard line has worked wonders there, the soft approach has been a dismal failure here in Britain.
They also cleaned up the streets, renovated old buildings and made nice park ares, gave the kids something to be proud of and respect, instead of living in a slum, that changed the kids and gave them a self respect, so they valued the nice surroundings and didn't want to trash them.It lifted their expectations, they then feel better about themselves, that they are worth it,Thats what we truly need in Britain.

NO

09.07.08, 8:20am

we need to send those carrying knives to a facility where as much as possible their life is taken away for one year, access to basic food and medical personel only, and make it clear that if they are found to have been the cause of a murder the will spend the rest of their lives existing that way.

DO WE NEED MORE POLICE BACK ON OUR STREETS?

08.07.08, 11:20pm

What most people want to see is a return to the George Dixon model of policing. An amiable bobby walking the streets, ticking off the kids, giving them a clip round the ear if necessary, stopping suspicious characters and asking them to accompany him to the police station etc.

All this policing by video camera is just sooo impersonal -- (invisible) policing by remote control or from cars does not work. It might save costs and suit the accountants but it is no use as a deterrent. Accountants' solutions don't work but...... Gormless Mc Clown has fallen for them hook line and sinker. Gormless has been taken-in by money grabbing professionals.

We need to see police back on our street corners.

If Gormless won't do it, vote him out.
