Is Britain's transport a mess?

MPs have today launched a campaign to try to remedy the unnecessary rail chaos faced regularly by thousands of passengers.

08.07.08, 11:56pm

The government stopped our buses years ago, its over a mile to the nearest bus stop...so if you havent got your own transport....its taxi's all the way.

And now they have taken our post office....I give up!

IS BRITAINS TRANSPORT A MESS. ?

30.06.08, 1:10pm

Yes it is. Expand the 'rail' network nationwide, build far more extensively than pre 'traitorous' closures by Dr R Beeching ! The rail gauge not necessarily constant nationwide, as for 'small lines'.
Restore and expand canal system, our 'national heritage' neglected and destroyed by sucessive governments.
Using modern technology / materials, build cargo / passenger sail ships. manyana, manyana ! no rush, less materializm, work 3 day week, or perhaps 6 month year !
Radical change of priorities. Less dependancy on oil, automobile/ truck, aircraft. Production to be replaced with alternatives, perhaps medical equipment, medicine, homes, power / insulation technology.
Technology not "Mega" ran by power conglomerates. Small / "Micro" The 'cash' would probably end up in the same pockets ! Never mind, that is not the objective.
Small communities, butcher, baker, candlestick maker, pubs, Dr's surgeries, along with larger clinics to replace unmanagable 'Mega' hospitals.
Banish Supermarkets, Farm or Home Grown the chice would be ones own !
Harness the " power " of prison inmates, ASBO holders, unemployed, the choice is yours, or should be, in a democracy !..........Enjoy.

YES OUR TRANSPORT IS A MESS.

26.06.08, 5:57pm

Yes! All governments since Beeching have made a mess of Public Transport.

Governments aimed the tax and subsidy system in favour of the private car, and road transport, with the sole aim of boosting vehicle production, as that was a big export for us then. BUT they faild to increase the amount of miles of roads for all these cars etc to travel on. A few poorly constructed motorways were not enough.

This move to the private car was to the detriment of bus and train travel even within the big cities. Now 50yrs+ of shortsighted failed policies are coming home to roost.

Not enough room on the roads for all the cars and lorries, and not enough miles of railway tracks for the trains to run on. To make matters worse planners have encouraged the separation of home and work place, thus increasing the need for people to commute!

Travel chaos will just get worse. Especially as this government would rather invest in pointless wars than internally in our nations infrastructure.

COMFORTABLE DELAYS...

25.06.08, 11:00am

With the price of fuel continually increasing it would be refreshing to hear the Government drawing up plans to improve the transport system across our nation. I regularly commute on the rail network and have become accustomed to hefty delays when I travel. It would be a welcome pleasure to commute on our public transport if schedules were adhered to. I’d like to extend my gratitude to the rail operators on the East coast line who have vastly improved the train carriages for commuter comfort. It would be far more comfortable knowing we were on course to reach our destinations on schedule however.

BEG TO DIFFER NALIN!

The Mafia have codes of conduct which preclude the admission to their ranks of the self-begotten Barstewards that pass for public representatives we call politicians.

CO-OPERATIVE OR COMMUNIST PARTY

24.06.08, 1:14pm

I use public transport already and it is something that government already has the power to control no matter who owns it. It all depends on who you want for government, a communist or a capitalist regime ? Our rail system is open to abuse by the Left Wing workers and the Right Wing owners, if they work together most of the problems will be solve but they will not work together because of the old Trade Union and Thatcherite attitude's. This country is to small in world terms to act in the disjointed manner that is creeping in. The co-operative party is the current group that are fostering the STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE - TAX TAX TAX campain that is causing so much hardship for all of us. They engineered the tanker drivers strike and they are behind the threatened SUMMER OF DISCONTENT disruption, all of their actions show this. They are taught these tactics at Ruskin College Cambridge (the college was put there in Cambridgeto try and give it some kind of a credible name.) It is where all the trade union leaders go to learn how to control people.

People working together is not liked by the Union Bosses because they lose control of the situation, if there is no conflict to exploit they cannot cause trouble and are not needed so they deliberately set out to cause trouble by hiding the truth. This makes them like parasitic leeches, just after your money to keep them in a very well paid job.

Our transport problems are their doing because of deliberate disruption caused by a minority of their members (usually the local leadership).

FOOTNOTE:
If you read the news and such pages as these you will be able to pick out the infiltrators who promote these twisted ideals by their support for things like getting us back on buses and trains to put us further back into the hands of Unions. I will start to name a few of their false names, they are easy to spot and they are an attempt by the co-operatives to undermine the credability of other writers and so hide the truth.

"THE WORLD IS A STAGE".

24.06.08, 1:00pm

Governments are the actors, and we are the audience. Its time to chuck rotton tomatoes at them, and "Boo!" We have been conned for a hundred years or more, time for a change for the way things are run.

TRANSPORT

24.06.08, 12:31pm

What transport? Here in Bristol they have been talking about a light rail system for 35 years yet the stupid council is still stagnating about this issue. Emmerson Green, Bradley Stoke were all built during the past 20 years and yet the morons in power here failed to put a rail system in at the beginning. Transport must be subsidised as it is in most other countries. Getting the population moving must be a priority.

MAGGIE AND HER LEGACY

24.06.08, 10:10am

This country's infrastructure has suffered its highest set back since introduction of the privatisation policies by Maggie and her gang of get rich quick people, and is being carried out by the present people in the House of Conmen.

They have hardly invested a fraction of the money collected in the name of taxes (and stealth taxes) and used most of them to finance their own extravagant life styles of royality.

Bliar had become a self-imposed president of this country and waged immoral and illegal international wars with Bush and their mafia gangsters and should be brought before the Internatinal Court of Justice.

These are the people who are usually made "Sirs" and "Dames" and are the scrooge of this world.

Has anyone ever thought where the mafia have disappeared?

The present day politicians are the members of this gangs and loot the public without showing the guns.

IS BRITAIN'S TRANSPORT A MESS?

24.06.08, 10:00am

Public transport? Forget it.

Total shambles. Unaffordable. Takes you everywhere except direct to where you want to go.

The ONLY sensible way to travel is by private motor car.

Never use it. Never will.

I WORKED FOR BRITISH RAIL 50 YEARS AGO. UNFORTUNATELY, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, THE ENTIRE RAIL SYSTEM HAS GONE TO POT

24.06.08, 9:13am

On 01.01.08 my Senior Citizen's Rail Card was increased by 25%.

When a first class return from Preston to London Euston is currently £340.00 return, I dread to think exactly WHO can afford to travel by rail.

Ah! I forgot. Our MP's can travel first class by rail - at taxpayer's expense!!

As previously posted - wherever there is a large pot of money, you can bet your last dollar that there will be quite a few persons with their sticky fingers in it!

It will definitely be cheaper to stay in bed.

WITHOUT DOUBT!

24.06.08, 5:20am

And it will continue to be a mess until the great British Public start making life difficult for all the self important bureaucrats that selishly feed off the system. Especially those who recently enjoyed such spectacular rewards for such gargantuan cock ups.

ºLº

23.06.08, 2:26pm

I've never really used public transport. I assume it's referring to inner city public transport because in N.yorks the buses were always on time and generally quite pleasant, but 6 years ago I migrated to Spain and haven't been on a bus since so I suppose I'm not a worthy candidate for a discussion on this subject.
