i don't avoid straight questions. i avoid stupid questions that have no reasonable answer (torres is fond of asking those).
so, your question about 'the common purpose'. the answer is 'no, of course not'.
in fact, despite you beeners continually accusing all and sundry on here of being members of this group, i acually have no idea what it is. so i'll look it up now on the ol' wikipedia...
so lets see...
"The objects of Common Purpose are the advancement of education for the public benefit with special emphasis on civil and social awareness and responsibility. The company states it aims to improve the way society works by expanding the vision, decision-making ability and influence of all kinds of leaders."
--eeesh... that does sound pretty terrible....
'education?'
'civil and social awareness'?
sounds like a nasty lot...
but the wikipedia continues:
"Common Purpose has of late come under criticism from intelligence writer Christopher Story,[9] a former adviser to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher,[10] and ex-British naval officer and submarine warfare expert[citation needed] Brian Gerrish who claim that its aim is to control the United Kingdom.[11] Similar criticism of the organisation has come from the Campaign for an Independent Britain, the United Kingdom Independence Party, David Icke and the British National Party.[citation needed] Common Purpose trustees recently issued a brief response to these criticisms on their website."
David Icke?
brian gerrish?
the beeners?
well, it's no surprise that we see these wacky conspiracy theorists behind this. i suppose that lizard aliens are involved somewhere too?
red, white and blue. you really need to stop watching paranoids on youtube...
anyway, no, i have nothing to do with the common prupose group (and their obviously evil plan to advance education and promote civic awareness!).
but thanks for giving me a good laugh though. i always wondered what you people were banging on about. it is even more amusing than i suspected.

LABOUR
28.04.08, 5:59pm
This government has lied and lied. I cannot believe that suddenly this year we have a food shortage. Just like the oil crisis it is all generated by corrupt governments and we the stupid public have to pay the price. They really do have us all by the short and curlies.

You normally avoid straight questions, here's one for you.
Are you a Common Purpose graduate?
and back to the question, Labour, and in particular Gordon (prudence) Brown took the credit for the false credit fueled boom, so they can damn well take the flack for the mess we now find ourselves in. Hopefully they will find out on May 1st.

you could have made a paddy field. but there would have been no one to harvest it. you would have to bring in immigrant labour.

I WOULD RATHER BE TOLD WHEN SUMMER IS COMING

It never arrived at all last year and my garden was drowning.
If I had known there was a rice shortage I am sure I could have made a nice paddy field out of it.

CONTRADICTION
28.04.08, 2:07pm
"then at least they should have been informing us of the situation.
We do not need " sheltering "
--well, on the one hand you say that we do not need sheltering, on the other, you want the governemnt to 'take steps' and 'inform us' about the situation.
yes, you also assert that you do not want to be sheltered by a nanny state? well, which is it?
the government has no control over international food prices. And, if people here read any real news (apart from the DE and the mail), they would haver known about the coming rise in food prices.
do you want the government to let you know when winter is coming too?

KIDDIES ?
28.04.08, 1:31pm
The government should be accountable.
If we have been "sheltered" fron the higher prices of food then the govt should have been taking steps to avoid price rises in Britain and if that were not possible then at least they should have been informing us of the situation.
We do not need " sheltering "
We are not "kiddies" as has been stated by CFB.
He is obviously part on the nanny state establishment.

THE BIG PICTURE
28.04.08, 12:26pm
in your lust to badmouth the government, you kiddies will blame anything on them, without having the slightest clue what you are talking about.
the rise in food prices has been coming for a couple of years now. food riots in mexico, pasta riots in italy, both last year. we have actually been quite shelterd from the increasing cost of food.
so, worldwise rise in staple food prices becasue of:
1. increasing demand from china.
2. rise in the use and production of biofeuls.

IS LABOUR TO BLAME FOR THE GREAT FOOD RIP OFF.
28.04.08, 12:18pm
Sucessive governments are to blame since the Victorian Era. These traitors / politicians have totally destroyed our Victorian heritage, the English way of life, the moral values / fibre, our industries / production, the very land we were born in and walk upon, traitors from start to finnish ! Talk of Oliver Cromwell !
Our children suffer, the sick ,the elderly, the man in the street, even the shops that were destroyed for Mega mega shopping precincts, supermarkets, no one is exempt Mamon. The Master Puppeteers, may think their hand shakes / school tie, Thier financial / power status / ego, offer them protection, thier very greed / methods are destroying everything including the 'Planet Earth ' Many species have followed the Dodo recently, what of Space, Coral reef's? Yes, in my book they must take
part of the blame, they do have a platform !

IS LABOUR TO BLAME ?

Over the last couple of decades or so it has become acceptable and then desirable to make massive and excessive profits.
While prices are low and wages are high the workers will accept if not condone the making of billionaires in the market place.
But when the economy flounders causing a squeeze on mortgages, rising food and energy prices our attention is turned to the super rich and our dwindling bank balances.
Labour have not been wise or intelligent enough to predict or at least provide for a sliding economy and therefore they must shoulder blame.
They were happy to revel in the good times taking their slice of the cake.
Now they must face the bad times with resilience and fortitude. LOL ( Impossible)
They will flounder now.
Labour have never been any good in a crisis.

SUPERMARKETS AND THE CORRUPT POLITICIANS!
28.04.08, 9:19am
Comment: "Petrol at my local filling station on Thursday was £1.06 per litre. Yesterday it was £1.07 per litre, whilst today it is £1.08 per litre. So it's jumped three times in as many days all at the same station. The most expensive around here I've seen is £1.13 per litre today"
And who are leading the price increase, of course, the supermarkets.
Tesco Express near my place in London is selling petrol at £1.09 per litre whereas an independent petrol station is selling at £1.07?
We deserve all we get from these immoral merchants when we are willing to pay £1.96 for 6 litres of milk which is available at £1.59 from corner shops!!
OFT investigation will only mean fine which would go into GoDown Bank unlimited to pay for their allowances!!!
Rip off Britain, now a police state!!!

THE GREAT FOOD RIP-OFF.
28.04.08, 7:06am
This government is in the midst of a war with any form of private enterprise. In order to keep in with the lefties and keep their vote they are agreeing to anything rather than face up to the truth.
The truth is that higher food prices are being put upon us by those who say they are our saviors, they have failed to keep down the cost of living as they promised and they want to get rid of supermarkets to go back to the bad old days of the high street shops run by the communist party this time instead of small business owners.
When you read any statement put out by labour and its cronies remember that we are an island nation that is isolated from the rest of the world, what we are told is only what the commies want us to know, we are kept in the dark and fed as mushrooms are on -------!!!! every day.
If it were possible for people to live abroad for a couple of years they would discover what I and many others did about the true goings on in this country. If these people could close the channel tunnel and get rid of the Internet it would suit them, then they could continue to mislead us.
What I say is not against the majority of labour supporters but against their leaders. It is quite clear that we must all work together [ Private and public sectors] to better our nation there is no place for out of date ideology and deceit. We do not want either a left or right wing dictatorship because neither will work. I would be just as scathing on either political set up.
They say that big business has taken many jobs overseas but the truth is that other, more go ahead, countries have switched on to our short comings and are happy to take what we reject because we want to return to the days when we could dictate to the world because of our industrial might which we don't have anymore.
The great food rip-off is not fun for many people, stop it before it is to late you cannot attack poverty by creating more of it.
