YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND .....

30.03.08, 6:56pm

Why the councils need all this money. As the financial year draws to a close, my own council is spending money (our money) like its going out of fashion.
Council workers out on Sundays at double time, painting, renewing, cleaning ..... anything just to spend last years cash, and so justify this years increases.
The councils should have ordinary tax payers sitting on their finance comittees, they need to be made accountable.

SORRY ABOUT THAT...

24.03.08, 11:15pm

My finger pressed the return button by mistake. What I was going to say was that although I am not a commie, I do not believe that one person should own two homes. That dreadful man, Rick Stein has made it virtually impossible for the young people of Padstow to buy homes in the PL28 area because he is buying up all the homes for holiday lets.

Legislation should be made for the Cornish people to be able to live in their own areas of upbringing without having to wait for their parents to "hop off the twig" before they can have a house there.

GROWING BURDENS

24.03.08, 1:32pm

If you compare the council tax 10 years ago to where it is today, it's got excessive, why? because so much extras are thrown on. Rubbish collection is less? You won't get it if your bin is slightly open or the wind happens to blow the top lid ajar.

I see one or two comments re "grow up", we all are, your probably one or two of the benefit scroungers doing well out of it.

The ordinary working man has been hammered into oblivion, and its got to stop. Excessive greed is one thing, ordinary salaries are another.

For christ sake Labour get a grip on what your doing.

Policy changes if i were running the country
1. A strict points system for professional workers to live/move here

2. Ban people owning more than 2 homes and probably 1 to give the youngsters a chance

3. Ban automatic right to a free home and payouts for single mum. The first child is excusable the second is not.

4. Massive overhaul of the benefits system. If you take a job after not working for 1-2 years the state will supplement your income particularly if its low paid

5. If a younster leaving school has no work for 12 months he will be expected to join the forces/national service and learn a trade.

6. if you are not a youngter and after 12 months cannot get a job, your local authority will seek to get you to do work for them based on your ability. They will supplement you income with a top up.

6. Any immigrant whose committed any crime whilst being here will be tossed out. They will be told that at the point of arrival

7. Child benefit should only apply to the one child, the second child will incurr and additional half again. After that its no more.

8. All visitors from overseas must pay more to the NHS at the point of use, it is not the international NHS. Stricter guidelines should be brought in regardless of left wing groups and their opinions. There is a responsibility to the British taxpayer

9. Greater rewards for savers, even for small amounts

10. Radical change to pensions

11. Cut goverment down to a fraction and stop all the paper chasing

12. Simplify tax to a simple universal system.

COMMUNITY CHARGE

24.03.08, 11:29am

Although, in theory the community charge was a good idea: after all, it is but right to expect every adult contribute to local councils whether they own a home or not. The problem with the one that our Maggie brought in was that it was hijacked by greedy leftist councils who used it as a ploy to virtually double household rates to pay for one legged ethnic minority lesbians and the sick, lame and lazy.

Also, the radical commie elements in our society who want to drag us all back to the 60s when unions ran the country went on a campaign of "can't pay, won't pay" which effectively left the rest of us law-abiding citizens paying for all the scumbags of society.

It led to a near anarchy never seen since the Peasants Revolt; and that, I believe was about a system of taxation similar to the "Poll Tax".

COUNCIL TAX

23.03.08, 5:40pm

Of course this government has to find something else to TAX, they are in trouble BIG time, already sold the family silver, in the Gordon Browns big give away of our Gold reserves, they have the biggest staff of civil servants ever, so many consultants, doing absolutely nothing but draw their fat fees, plus an army of "watchdogs" like Oftel - Ofwat - Ofgen - Otenforgotten etc etc all of them powerless to make any difference.
To top it all we have the local councils, who all have a duplication of most of the above.
With the salaries these various nonentities are drawing, they are completely oblivious to what Joe public has as disposable income and therefore keep wheeling out new ways of stealing what little we have left.
The next Government needs seriously to have another look at Community Charge - not Poll Tax - as the present system is obviously not working to the good of the majority.

COUNCIL TAX

23.03.08, 3:39pm

I guess if you work hard to keep your family and pay a mortgage for twenty five years or more, don't claim benefits, and have some sense of responsibility, then you deserve to be penalised.

What you should do is don't bother to work, have twenty kids with fifteen different fathers, get plenty of booze and fags with your benefit money, have a car but don't tax it or insure it, let the taxpayer keep you, demand the council give you a ten bedroomed house, and then you won't have to pay any council tax at all.

Which one is the mug?

ABOUT TIME

23.03.08, 12:19pm

WELL I’M ONE OF THOSE UNFASHIONABLE PEOPLE WHO THINK ITS ABOUT TIME THOSE IN FORTUNATE POSITION STARTED TO ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY, APPOSE TO SUCKING THE SYSTEM DRY AND THEN BLAMMING THOSE LESS FORTUNATE.

COUNCIL TAX SHOULD BE A LOT HIGHER FOR THOSE WHO OWN THERI OWN HOME, BECAUSE IN THE MAJORITY OF CASES THEY GOT IT CHEAP FROM THE SOCIAL HOUSING STOCK AND HAVE NEVER PAID FOR THAT LUXURY.

COUNCIL TAX SHOULD BE MEANS TESTED, WHY ON EARTH SHOULD A PENSIONER PAY THE SAME AS SOME WEALTHY LAZY SOD??
