TO 'MUCH TRAVELLED JACKY'
23.07.07, 3:19pm
Just to bring you up to date, I live in France and the smoking ban is already in part operating here and smoking will be completely banned in ALL public places as from Jan.2008.
As a non-smoker with a legacy of bronchial problems from growing up in a cigarette smoke infested house (which even as a child, I found disgusting beyond words) I welcome the ban wholeheartedly. Many personal things should be practised in private and smoking is one of them - if you must smoke at all.Smokers do not have the right to contaminate non smoking, clean people.

JUST SOMETHING I SAW...
22.07.07, 10:59pm
The best way to take control over a people and control them
utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode
rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible
reductions. In this way the people will not see those rights
and freedoms being removed until past the point at which
these changes cannot be reversed - Adolf Hitler

STAYING IN
22.07.07, 10:40pm
Given this ban was based upon lies, scare-mongering and propoganda, we will carry on fighting for an amendment, to include ventilation/air filtration. If it is safe enough for other workers, then it is safe enough for everyone.
Hamish allows smokers inside, keeping the noise level down and litter down.
Get rid of the smoke, not the smokers, stop this intolerance and hatred that has spread like a cancer.
That is not healthy for our children or Country,
Many people have obessive disorders, is that what the antis have, because this has become an obsession for a small minority.
Thankfully people are waking up to it!
Tolerant non-smokers and smokers alike, are fighting this ban side by side.

As a much travelled individual around Europe I just cannot imagine either the French,Spanish or the Greeks putting up with what we the British put up with.
Heavily taxed fuel, road tax, tobacco products etc etc.and the ban on everything!
Let's have a level playing field! Time to shout enough!

ACCEPT DEFEAT GRACEFULLY
22.07.07, 9:46pm
Being an ex smoker I understand the angst felt by smokers but I think it is time to accept that smoking will not return to pubs etc. You can rant against this government but if it had been Tory, Lib Dem or Nationalists in power you would eventually still have had the no smoking law in place. If drinking is banned in the streets then it doesn't matter whether you have a ciggy in your hand or not, you are breaking the law. Backing the loony publican who is ignoring the law is infantile. If he was peddling child porn would you back him? I don't think so. So why back him on this illegal action?
Get wise and stub it out.

MISS THOSE DAYS, OUR NATION WAS A TRUE DEMOCRACY?
22.07.07, 6:52pm
It’s ironic, there are posters, albeit few, who deem most of us posting on this site as fascists. Undoubtedly, these few are supporters of this fascist, nanny-state Labour has created.
This leftist government puts more energy, effort and money into their anti-tobacco legislation than illegal immigrants and other interlopers “giving it” to this nation, and not gently or kindly. Does anyone long for those days when this nation was a true democracy?

INTOLERABLE RULES BY THE EVER INCREASING 'POLICE STATE;'
22.07.07, 5:08pm
So much for New Labours 'cafe culture' when they came up with excuses for extending pub opening hours.
Are the police saying, if you sit down on a chair provided by the pub it's OK, but if you stand around outside drinking and smoking, that is a no go? What about non-smokers, are they not allowed to take a drink outside a pub now?
This government and the police are causing ordinary people to be classed as criminals by breaking petty rules and new laws introduced by a 'Big Brother State ideology;'
It is now, for the ordinary law abiding citizen, like constantly treading on egg shells, simply to go about your daily life. Whilst real criminals, go about their business unhindered by the government or the police, innocent citizens are persecuted!
If ever a government created an atmosphere for total civil disobedience and anarchy, it is this government and it's present day policies!

PUT SOME FIELDS ASIDE !!
22.07.07, 3:57pm
Lets herd all us smokers into specially designated smoking fields - stay away from the pubs - then the pressure will be back on the government when all the sales go down - you know LOSS OF TAXES!
OH AND DON'T FORGET TO GO OUTSIDE AND LEAVE YOUR CHIIPS ON THE COUNTER WHILE PUTTING VINEGAR ON THE FISH !!
IF IT GETS ANY MORE NANNY STATE - WE'LL ALL BE WEARING NAPPIES SOON !!
