In a few words: I regret voting for the Common Market in 1974. I was misled as to its ultimate intentions and now I am older and wiser I am bitterly opposed to the European Super State.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE US EDWARD HEATH’S ERA AGAIN – EVER!

Published: Sunday September 7,2008 by beefsandwich

In 1973, the arrogant Heath government picked an unnecessary fight.

The snobbish Heath introduced a 50 mph speed limit on all our roads, curtailed lighting in our shops, offices and streets and restricted heating in commercial premises. He announced stringent measures to conserve electricity. Industrial and commercial users were limited to a total of 5-days´ consumption for the first fortnight after which the limit was three specified consecutive days each week and prohibited working longer hours on those days. Workers put on a 3-day week were entitled to one day’s unemployment benefit in the second week and two-days´ benefit in subsequent weeks. Essential services (restaurants, food shops and newspapers) were exempt.

I well remember working in a cold office by Gaz light. There was a shortage of batteries, Gaz stoves and refills due to the power crisis and we had to go home early before we finished our day’s work. Chaos reigned. We walked home by torchlight because we found our streets in pitch darkness. Once home, we often had to sit in the dark for long periods with a blank TV screen, no hot food and only the coal fire to keep us warm. This was not a pleasant time.

Quite honestly, I do not know whether Brown/Labour is going to cause that to happen again. However, some readers may be surprised to know that I consider the Heath government of 1973 to have been the most destructive, evil and wicked government of all time. Much as I loathe Brown/Labour for many, many reasons, I NEVER, want to live under an irresponsible government like Edward Heath’s ever again. I was glad to see the back of him.

[That is without even mentioning the EEC!]
