... I went to Ashlyns Secondary Modern in the 1950's. I couldn't have had a better education. After 'register' we all went to the hall for Assembly every day. The teaching staff all wore their gowns, were addressed as Sir and Miss. We all had to stand when an adult entered the room. We all sat facing the teacher and learnt together, Maths, English, Geography, History, Nature Studies, Science, Art and Crafts, Music, a full range of Sports, including, swimming, tennis, athletics, cricket, football, rugby and netball. Looking on the Friends Reunited webpage most of the pupils went on to have successful careers and did well for themselves.
