walk around in grange park in blackpool, or anyone of a number of white underclass neighbourhoods in liverpool, wrexham, salford burney etc. see how comfortable you feel there amongst the burnt out cars and wayward children.
alienation is felt in a lot of places, not just in immigrant neightbourhoods.
my guess is that the root of your alienation ilay more in your age and nostalgia, than in immigration.

that sharia law argument is ludicrous. the archbishops comments were totally taken out of context. anyone with a brain knows that.
the whole 'adoption of sharia law' controversy was based on a small reference to something called 'faith based arbitration', something don't in other countries like canada, where minority individuals can, of they choose, to use faith- based arbitration in cases like inhereitance and divorce proceedings to speed up the judicial process.

it is a completely voluntary system and has nothing to do with adopting sharia law as part of british common law. there is/was there any danger of 'british' people being subject to sharia law. it was merely a vague point that something like that could potentially be done here for whatever group (muslims were not the only ones mentioned).

It was one of the more inane and comical media-led 'controviersies' i have heard of in recent years. there are plenty of religous groups in britian that use thier own legal traditions in one way or another. Jewish people, for example, have two eruvim now in london. a good example of a jewish law there that only effects the people who actually observe jewish orthodoxy.
don't see you complaining about that though. and rightfully not.
